We’re on the lookout for a Trade Compliance Specialist to help keep goods moving smoothly across U.S. and Canadian borders. In this hands-on role, you’ll manage customs documentation, monitor shipment clearance, and maintain accurate trade records while working closely with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and internal teams. You’ll play an important role in ensuring shipments move efficiently and in compliance with applicable requirements, while building your expertise in customs and trade compliance in a fast-paced global environment.
In This Role
Compile and transmit shipment data and documentation to customs brokers to support timely and compliant entry filings
Review customs entry documents for completeness and consistency, and flag discrepancies to senior compliance staff for resolution
Apply established Harmonized Tariff Schedule classifications to shipments and assist with classification research under supervision
Support post-entry activities by compiling documentation and data for Post Summary Corrections, protests, and duty drawback and refund claims under guidance
Audit filed customs entries against source documents, including commercial invoices, packing lists, tariff classifications, and duty and fee calculations, and flag discrepancies for correction
Track inbound and outbound shipments and monitor customs clearance status, maintaining accurate shipment and clearance logs
Serve as a daily point of contact for customs brokers and freight forwarders on routine documentation and shipment status questions
Research and resolve routine customs holds, examinations, and documentation discrepancies, escalating complex issues to senior staff
Track and reconcile duty, tax, and fee payments, including monitoring Automated Clearing House (ACH) periodic monthly statement activity
Maintain accurate, well-organized trade compliance records and filing systems in accordance with recordkeeping and retention requirements
Support the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) program by maintaining required documentation and records
Follow established standard operating procedures and work instructions, and help maintain current process documentation
Monitor regulatory bulletins and trade notices, and flag relevant changes for senior compliance staff
Identify and report recurring errors, trends, or process gaps observed in daily work
Other duties as assigned, in accordance with training and qualifications

The Ideal Person
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent relevant experience
3+ years of experience in import/export operations, logistics, supply chain, or customs brokerage
Working knowledge of customs documentation and the import entry process
Strong attention to detail, organization, and data-entry accuracy
Proficiency with spreadsheets and ERP, trade, or logistics systems
Experience with the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE), Automated Broker Interface (ABI), or customs broker portals
Familiarity with tariff classification, Importer Security Filing (ISF) requirements, and partner government agency requirements
Experience with Canadian customs processes preferred
Customs brokerage or freight-forwarding experience preferred
Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation or interest in pursuing certification as part of professional development
