Senior Backend Developer

We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer to help build the best digital assistant for professional kitchens. Running a profitable and enjoyable foodservice business—without sacrificing chef creativity—is incredibly hard. FoodOp is on a mission to change that globally. More than 700 chefs across 550+ kitchens use FoodOp daily to manage recipes, menus, procurement, and reporting—and we’re just getting started. You will join our development team in Copenhagen, working closely with frontend and backend developers, as well as designers.

About the Role This is a hands-on engineering role. You’ll spend most of your time designing and building product alongside the rest of the team. You will: Own substantial backend features from product discussions and data modelling through implementation and deployment

Help evolve our backend architecture, scalability, and reliability as the product grows

Make pragmatic technical decisions that balance shipping today with building for tomorrow

Contribute to backend patterns and engineering practices across our Python applications

Participate actively in code reviews and technical discussions

Work closely with frontend engineers, designers, and customers to build great product experiences and public APIs

What We’re Looking For We care more about what you’ve built and the environments you’ve worked in than your exact number of years of experience or previous titles. We think you’ll be a great fit if you: Have 4+ years of professional backend development experience

Are a strong, hands-on engineer who enjoys building and owning software in production

Have strong fundamentals in data modelling, APIs, databases, backend architecture, reliability, and maintainability

Have good technical judgment—knowing when to move quickly and when foundational work will pay off

Can independently take an ambiguous problem, understand the product need, explore the tradeoffs, and ship a solution

Enjoy technical discussions and can both challenge and be challenged without ego

Have strong product sense and care about what we build, not just how we build it

We’re particularly interested if you’ve been part of a startup or engineering team through a period of significant growth. You’ve seen technical decisions that aged well, some that didn’t, and learned what becomes important as a product and team scale. You don’t need to have been the architect or technical lead—we care about what you learned from the experience. We primarily use Python, but deep Python experience is less important than being an excellent backend engineer.
