Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Horizontal Boring Machine (HBM) Machinist to set up, program, and operate HBMs for high-precision components in heavy engineering, marine, and machinery sectors. In this role, you will be responsible for end-to-end machining operations—from CAM programming and setup to quality inspection and routine equipment maintenance. Key Responsibilities Machining & Setup: Independent setup, alignment, and operation of Horizontal Boring Machines for boring, milling, drilling, tapping, and facing.

Programming & Tooling: Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam based on engineering blueprints; select proper tooling, speeds, and feeds.

Quality Assurance: Inspect finished parts using precision tools (micrometers, bore gauges, vernier calipers) to ensure strict adherence to tolerances.

Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve machining, dimensional, or programming issues on the fly to meet delivery deadlines.

Maintenance & Safety: Maintain a clean, organized work environment (5S); perform daily and bi-weekly machine cleaning, chip removal, and basic preventative care; flag mechanical defects or leaks to supervisors.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with workshop, engineering, and QA/QC teams to maintain workflow efficiency.

Qualifications & Requirements Experience: 3–5+ years operating and setting up HBMs, with a background in marine, heavy engineering, or engine reconditioning preferred.

Technical Proficiency: Fluent in blueprint reading (tolerances, GD&T, machining symbols) and Mastercam CNC programming (Fanuc control experience is a plus).

Skills: Hands-on experience with large/heavy component setups, tooling selection, and working with materials like carbon steel, cast iron, stainless steel, and Inconel.

Work Ethic: Strong problem-solving skills, able to work independently with minimal supervision, highly safety-minded, and willing to work overtime when needed.
