Legal Counsel
About the job Do you have broad legal experience, strong commercial understanding, and a desire to take on a central role in one of Europe's fastest-growing fintech companies? Flatpay is looking for an ambitious Legal Counsel who can act as a close sparring partner for the business across our international markets. With us, you will have the opportunity to work at the intersection of the legal and commercial, and you will participate as a strategic sparring partner for our commercial teams. You will play a central role in Flatpay's continued scaling and will be responsible for complex legal issues, major commercial agreements, and the development of the legal frameworks and processes required to support a high-growth international company.
About the team The Legal team at Flatpay is in rapid development and is expected to grow further over the coming period. In addition to colleagues at the headquarters, you will continuously have contact and sparring with legal colleagues in our largest markets. Everyone is closely involved in the legal workflows across the organization, and we work together with both internal and external stakeholders, emphasizing high quality, accountability, accessibility, and open dialogue within the team. Your primary responsibilities: As Legal Counsel at Flatpay, your responsibilities will include, among others: Corporate Law & governance: Advising on corporate law matters, group structure, warrants, governance, and general corporate housekeeping.
International expansion: Supporting the establishment and development of Flatpay in new and existing markets and coordinating with local legal advisors where necessary.
Regulatory and compliance-related issues: Working closely with product teams and other relevant teams on legal and regulatory questions in a fintech context.
Data, IT security & AI: Independent legal advice within GDPR and AI regulation, including the preparation of policies & guidelines, assessment of new legal requirements, and implementation of these across markets.
Legal operations: Developing and professionalizing legal processes, templates, policies, and governance so that Legal can keep pace with the company's growth.
External advice: Managing the collaboration with external lawyers and specialists, translating and communicating their advice to the business, and ensuring it can be applied effectively and commercially in practice.
The role requires that you can maintain calm and overview, as well as make pragmatic decisions in an organization where the pace is high and problems do not come with a manual.
Who are you? We imagine that you: Have a degree in law (cand.jur. or cand.merc.jur.).
Have a minimum of 2–4 years of relevant legal experience, for example from a leading law firm, a large international company, fintech, tech, or another regulated industry.
Have significant experience in the preparation and rollout of terms, policies, and processes, as well as training employees and conducting general awareness across borders.
Have experience with the ongoing assessment of security breaches, risk assessments, professional sparring regarding new products/new business practices, IT security, and AI security/compliance.
Have strong competencies within several relevant legal areas, such as contract law, corporate law, data protection, technology, and regulatory matters.
Are comfortable with responsibility and can make well-considered decisions, even when there is no unambiguous legal answer.
Have a good commercial understanding and the ability to translate complex legal issues into clear legal recommendations.
Work independently, structured, and with high quality, but without letting perfection stand in the way of progress.
Thrive in a scale-up where priorities can change quickly, and where you are expected to take ownership rather than waiting for a detailed brief.
Speak and write Danish and English at a high level.
Experience from fintech, payments, financial services, or another regulated company is an advantage, but not a requirement.
