Senior Plant Fitter & Yard Supervisor Chertsey, Surrey

  • Full-time, Permanent
  • Salary dependent on experience, in the region of £50,000+
  • Monday – Friday, 07:30 – 17:00
  • Based full-time at the Chertsey yard
  • Must have UK driving licence
  • Salary and package dependent upon experience

The Role

Our client is an established groundworks and civil engineering contractor operating across the Southeast and Home Counties. They are looking for an experienced and hands-on Senior Plant Fitter & Yard Supervisor to join their team, based full-time at their yard in Chertsey, Surrey.

This is a varied dual role combining the maintenance and repair of their plant and equipment with responsibility for the day-to-day organisation and operation of the yard.

This position would suit an experienced plant fitter looking for a varied role with greater responsibility. The successful candidate will play an important part in ensuring their plant and equipment is properly maintained, available when required and that their Chertsey yard operates safely and efficiently.

What You’ll Do

  • Service, maintain, diagnose and repair construction plant and equipment, from small tools to larger machinery, including mechanical and electrical faults.
  • Carry out routine servicing, preventative maintenance, welding and fabrication repairs to help minimise plant downtime.
  • Inspect equipment returning from sites, identify repairs or maintenance required and prepare plant and equipment for issue to construction sites.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and well-organised yard and workshop, ensuring equipment is stored securely and the yard operates efficiently.
  • Receive, check and coordinate deliveries and collections, and assist with loading and unloading plant, equipment and materials.
  • Maintain appropriate records for servicing, repairs and plant movements.
  • Liaise with their site and transport teams regarding plant requirements, repairs and movements.

What We’re Looking For

The successful candidate should have:

  • Previous experience as a plant fitter, mechanic or similar role, working with a range of construction plant and equipment.
  • Good mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills, alongside welding and basic fabrication experience.
  • A practical, hands-on approach with the ability to work independently.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A strong understanding of health and safety within a workshop and yard environment.
  • Good communication skills and a willingness to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the yard.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Relevant plant, mechanical, electrical or welding qualifications would be advantageous, although practical experience and the right attitude are equally important.
