MIPT AI Institute is the leading artificial intelligence institute in Russia. The Institute includes the strongest scientists and key laboratories of Phystech in the following areas: optimization for AI, Robotics, Generative AI, Computer Vision, and Mathematical Modeling. The Institute's goal is to create breakthrough scientific research and applied developments for the key industries of the country's economy.

A little about us in numbers:

  • 1st place among technical universities in Russia in the international THE and CWUR rankings (2026);
  • 1st place in the RAEX subject ranking in the field of "Information Technologies" (2025);
  • 1st place in the ranking of advanced engineering schools (2025);
  • 1st place in the ranking of Russian universities by quality of admission (2025);
  • Leader in the university ranking for the quality of training specialists in the field of artificial intelligence (2025).

Working at MIPT means:

  • working at the best technical university in the country in a team with outstanding world-class scientists, talented and motivated students, and highly qualified specialists;
  • continuous professional growth while working on ambitious tasks and unique projects at the intersection of education, science, and industry, with the opportunity to contribute to the development of education and science in Russia.

What you will be doing:

  • Performing electronics circuit design for an autonomous analyzer and phyto-camera: from requirements to a finished, debugged board.
  • Routing multi-layer printed circuit boards in Altium Designer or KiCad, producing design documentation, BOM, and manufacturing files.
  • Developing the power subsystem for the autonomous device: battery, PoE or external power, power consumption modes, board thermal management.
  • Selecting components and circuitry for sensors and lighting: analog circuits, LED drivers, microclimate sensor interfaces.
  • Improving your own boards and firmware in C/C++ for microcontrollers (STM32 and analogues): sensor polling, lighting control, synchronization, communication with the computing module.
  • Carrying out electrical integration of the camera and lighting unit with the computing module: interfaces, lighting and shutter synchronization, interfacing with the computer vision team.
  • Conducting debugging and refinement based on test results: measurements, failure analysis, releasing board revisions.
  • Formulating requirements for the enclosure, cabling, and mounting for the mechanic and contractors; incoming inspection of manufactured boards.

Requirements:

  • Completed higher education in the field of electronics, radio engineering, instrumentation, or related disciplines;
  • At least 5 years of experience in electronics development with proven results: your own boards brought to serial or small-scale production;
  • Confident experience in circuit design and multi-layer board routing in Altium Designer or KiCad, production of design documentation and BOM;
  • Programming in C++ for microcontrollers: board improvement, working with peripherals, debugging via JTAG/SWD;
  • Experience working with basic digital interfaces: SPI, I2C, UART, USB, Ethernet;
  • Proficiency with measurement equipment and engineering debugging culture: oscilloscope, logic analyzer, multimeter;
  • Ability to manage the hardware part independently, without external technical supervision, and bring boards to a working state;
  • English proficiency at least Intermediate (technical documentation, communication with suppliers);
  • Readiness for site visits (greenhouses, gardens) for installation and field testing — approximately once every 2 months.

Advantages would be:

  • Embedded Linux on custom hardware: carrier boards for computing modules (NXP i.MX, Rockchip, Allwinner, NVIDIA Jetson), drivers, Buildroot or Yocto.
  • Experience with camera and optical units: MIPI CSI or LVDS interfaces, lighting control, exposure synchronization.
  • Experience developing devices for operation in humid and dusty environments: agro-industry, special machinery.
  • Wireless communication and telemetry: Wi-Fi, LTE/NB-IoT, LoRa.
  • Experience bringing products into series at contract manufacturing, preparation of test tooling.
  • Experience with certification and working with GOST, TR CU standards, and EMC requirements.
  • Experience with FPGA (considered a bonus, not required in the current architecture).
  • Presence of patents, publications, or your own projects in the field of electronics.

We offer:

  • Working at the best technical university in the country in a team with outstanding world-class scientists, talented and motivated students, and highly qualified specialists.
  • Continuous professional growth while working on ambitious tasks and unique projects at the intersection of education, science, and industry, with the opportunity to contribute to the development of science in Russia.
  • A modern office in the MIPT campus in Dolgoprudny (Near Novodachnaya MCD-1 station, or 15 minutes from Altufyevo, Khovrino, Fiztekh metro stations).
  • Salary level is discussed individually: a highly qualified candidate ready to perform the full range of job functions can claim the upper limit of the salary range.
  • Hybrid work schedule: 5/2 (Monday-Friday) from 09:00 to 18:00.
  • Employment in accordance with the Labor Code of the Russian Federation.
  • Free access to all MIPT infrastructure: swimming pool, gym, training at open seminars and lectures, concerts.
  • A modern MIPT medical center with highly qualified specialized doctors.

In accordance with the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, employees in the field of education are required to provide a certificate of criminal record (or lack thereof) upon employment, the processing time for which can be up to 30 days; please take care of obtaining it in advance (electronic request via Gosuslugi).
