Job Description A well-established Shipping Company based in Athens is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Marine Officer to join its Marine Department, supporting the safe and efficient operation of its Dry Cargo fleet.
Your tasks
The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring vessel operations, ensuring compliance with international maritime regulations, and maintaining high standards of safety, operational efficiency, and performance.
- Monitor and support the safe and efficient operation of Dry Cargo vessels.
- Ensure compliance with ISM Code, ISPS Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, and applicable maritime regulations.
- Conduct vessel inspections, internal audits, and onboard assessments.
- Monitor vessel performance and ensure adherence to company safety and operational procedures.
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the company's Safety Management System (SMS).
- Investigate marine incidents, near misses, and non-conformities, ensuring appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
- Provide technical and operational guidance to Masters and vessel crews.
- Coordinate with relevant departments to ensure smooth fleet operations.
- Assist with preparations for Flag State, Port State Control, and third-party inspections.
Requirements
Candidate Requirements
- Master Mariner (Class A) Certificate of Competency, preferably with previous command experience on Dry Cargo vessels.
- Previous experience in a Marine Superintendent or Marine Officer position will be considered a strong advantage.
- Solid knowledge of international maritime regulations and industry best practices.
- Experience with Bulk Carriers and/or General Cargo vessels.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with maritime management systems.
- Ability to travel internationally when required.
