About the company
FJR are recruiting on behalf of a leading service provider in the utilities industry for an experienced Design Manager in the South East.
Your tasks
*Design Manager role**
- As a Design Manager, you’ll be leading and managing the design and technical delivery of clean and wastewater infrastructure projects, ensuring that solutions are safe, compliant, cost-effective, and meet client and operational requirements. The role oversees multidisciplinary design teams, coordinates internal and external stakeholders, and manages the full design lifecycle from concept through to construction and handover.
- You'll work closely with the framework manager to ensure the capability and capacity of design staff is available on the specific contract.
*Design Manager responsibilities**
- Managing a design team across multiple disciplines.
- Managing the development and delivery of clean and wastewater projects, including pumping stations, clean and wastewater networks, and associated infrastructure.
- Ensuring designs comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, health and safety obligations, and client specifications.
- Planning and monitoring design programmes, resources, budgets, risks, and change control processes.
- Acting as the primary technical interface between clients, operational teams, contractors, and external stakeholders.
- Driving innovation, sustainability, and low-carbon solutions within project designs.
- Reviewing and approving technical outputs while maintaining quality assurance and design governance.
- Supporting and mentoring engineers and designers to develop technical capability within the team.
- Managing design approvals and handover processes to ensure successful project delivery.
Requirements
*Design Manager requirements**
- Previous experience in a Design Manager or senior design role within the water or utilities industry.
- Experience delivering clean water and/or wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience managing multidisciplinary design teams.
- Strong knowledge of relevant industry standards, CDM Regulations and health & safety requirements.
- A relevant engineering qualification.
- Strong communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
