Education:

College/CEGEP.

Work site environment:

Beef cattle ranching and farming, including feedlots. Hay farming. Grain, oil and forage crop.

Tasks:

• Clear and collect brush and debris from fields, pens and other work areas.
• Diagnose livestock health issues.
• Handling animals.
• Marking livestock as proof of ownership.
• Monitor the calving process.
• Monitoring animal health.
• Organize tasks to accomplish the work.
• Perform livestock feeding.
• Treat livestock health issues.
• Weaning.
• Fertilize and spray crops.
• Harvest crops.
• Feed and tend animals.
• Assist in the development and implementation of farm safety and bio-security procedures.
• Maintain financial and production records.
• Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment.
• Provide agricultural crop services such as plowing, irrigating, cultivating, spraying or harvesting.
• Carry out a pasture or pen breeding programs.
• Co-ordinate and supervise the work of general farm workers and harvesting labourers.
• Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed.
• Maintain livestock performance records.
• Maintain quality control and production records.
• Select livestock for sale.
• Supervise and oversee breeding and other livestock-related programs.
• Supervise and oversee growing and other crop-related operations.
• Clean stables, barns, barnyards and pens.
• Maintain work records and logs.
• Perform general farm duties.
