Major duties

Serving as a Marine Machinery Repairer WG-5334-8 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is located in the Office of the Associate Director for Training Ops (TOPS), Training Management Operations Directorate (TMO), Office of Charleston Operations (CHS), Maritime and General Training Branch (MGT), located in North Charleston, South Carolina. The primary purpose of this position is serve as a Marine Machinery Repairer responsible for assisting the Marine Machinery Mechanic. Typical duties include: Assisting with troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of marine engines and machinery. Performing preventive maintenance and operational inspections on vessels and systems. Using technical manuals, diagnostic tools, and test equipment to complete repairs. Repairing and maintaining vessel support systems, trailers, and emergency response equipment. In addition to the above requirements, applicants will be assessed based on their knowledge of the job elements identified below: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Troubleshooting The job elements can be assessed using the following types of experience: Applicant must have experience performing such duties as assisting Marine Machine Mechanics in troubleshooting, disassembling, reassembling, installing, adjusting, modifying, maintaining, repairing, and testing complex diesel and gasoline internal combustion marine engines and related equipment. Experience includes working with propulsion machinery, generators, pumps, fuel lines, bilge pumps, electronics, and hydraulic steering systems, complex diesel and gasoline internal combustion marine engines and related systems, including outboard motors, inboard diesel engines, generators, pumps, fuel systems, bilge systems, hydraulic steering systems, trim units, lower units, trailers, lighting systems, safety devices, and vessel support equipment. Work includes identifying worn, damaged, or improperly adjusted components; replacing, reworking, or refinishing parts; performing preventive maintenance; conducting operational and functional tests; and making adjustments to return vessels and equipment to safe operating condition. Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of Contender and Zodiac-style boats, as well as Yamaha, Mercury, Honda, Evinrude, and Caterpillar engines. All requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).
