This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of IT infrastructure, networking and marine technology, supporting systems deployed on vessels operating internationally.
Your tasks
You will take ownership of technical issues from diagnosis through resolution, working directly with vessel crews, customer IT teams, service engineers and a global technical operations team. The role offers a mix of remote troubleshooting and hands-on technical work onboard vessels calling at Singapore ports, typically 2–3 times per week.
- Investigate and resolve issues involving system hardware, software, networking and integrations.
- Troubleshoot vessel connectivity, including VSAT, firewalls, VPNs and network configurations, in collaboration with customer IT teams.
- Support remote installations, system upgrades, maintenance and operational testing.
- Attend vessels in Singapore to diagnose faults, perform installations and ensure onboard systems operate reliably.
- Analyse system logs, document root causes and provide clear technical evidence when escalating complex cases to engineering teams.
- Manage customer issues through to resolution, maintaining clear communication with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support installation schedules and operational requirements outside standard working hours.
Requirements
This opportunity is ideal for a technically strong support engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, working independently and seeing the direct impact of their work in a real-world maritime environment.
- Several years of hands-on experience in technical support, field service, systems engineering or a similar technical role.
- Strong Linux troubleshooting skills, including command-line diagnostics, system services, logs and network configuration.
- Solid networking knowledge covering IP addressing, routing, DNS, firewalls, VPNs and VSAT or other constrained connectivity environments.
- Familiarity with NMEA data and marine equipment integration.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to take ownership of technical cases from diagnosis to resolution.
- Clear communication skills and confidence working with both technical stakeholders and vessel crews.
- Willingness and ability to visit Singapore ports regularly, board vessels safely and perform hands-on technical work 2–3 times per week.
- Ability to work independently in Singapore while collaborating with a geographically distributed team.
- Excellent English communication skills.
Advantageous Experience
- Experience in maritime technology, marine electronics or vessel-based systems.
- Knowledge of NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 protocols.
- Experience supporting onboard computers, cameras, sensors, network equipment or bridge systems.
- NMEA certification or formal training in marine electronics.
- Experience supporting commercial vessels and coordinating technical work around port calls and tight operational schedules.
