Based on Article 12 of the Statute, the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, announces a J O B V A C A N C Y

For the position of Project Associate, Junior Researcher SPONA – Efficient coupled systems for maritime-aerial operations with advanced autonomy, at the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Technology, Chair of Design of Marine Vessels, for a fixed period (predictable until July 1, 2029), with full-time employment, including a 6-month probationary period, 2 positions.

The project is funded by the "Competitiveness and Cohesion" Program 2021–2027 (European Regional Development Fund) under the call "Collaborative Scientific Research" (PK.1.1.13).

Job description for the position of Project Associate, Junior Researcher:

  • participates in scientific work on the scientific project,
  • participates in research and development activities on research and development projects,
  • performs other tasks within their scope of work as determined by the project manager

The employee is responsible to the project manager.

Applicants applying for the position must meet the following requirements:

1. Project Associate – Junior Researcher 1

Job description – area of system dynamics modeling:

  • Participates in work on the scientific-research project.
  • Participates in research and development activities in the field of system dynamics modeling, with an emphasis on the coupled dynamics of USV–UAV systems and experimental validation.
  • Participates in the development of mathematical and numerical models of vessel motion, unmanned aircraft, stabilized platforms, and their interactions.
  • Participates in the experimental determination and identification of dynamic model parameters and their calibration and validation based on laboratory and field testing.
  • Participates in the processing and analysis of measurement data, preparation of technical documentation, project reports, and scientific publications, and in the dissemination of project results.
  • Performs other tasks within their scope of work as determined by the project manager.

In addition to the general requirements, additional criteria for candidate selection are proposed:

  • completed university graduate study or integrated university undergraduate and graduate study in the field of technical sciences, field of aerospace, rocket and space engineering, mechanical engineering, or naval architecture
  • knowledge of programming and numerical data processing, preferably in the MATLAB programming language and/or Python programming environment
  • active knowledge of English in speaking and writing
  • desirable experience in mathematical or numerical modeling of system motion dynamics

2. Project Associate – Junior Researcher 2

Job description – area of mechatronics and robotics:

  • Participates in work on the scientific-research project.
  • Participates in the development, fabrication, integration, and experimental validation of mechatronic subsystems and prototypes, including sensors, actuators, control units, and their connection with digital models.
  • Participates in research and development activities in the field of mechatronics and robotics, with an emphasis on sensor data fusion and digital twin of systems.
  • Participates in the preparation and implementation of laboratory, pool, and field testing, as well as the processing and analysis of results.
  • Participates in the preparation of technical documentation, project reports, and scientific publications, and in the dissemination of project results.
  • Performs other tasks within their scope of work as determined by the project manager.

In addition to the general requirements, additional criteria for candidate selection are proposed:

  • completed university graduate study or integrated university undergraduate and graduate study in the field of technical sciences, field of mechanical engineering, naval architecture, aerospace, rocket and space engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science
  • knowledge of the basics of mechatronics, robotics, and automatic control systems
  • knowledge of programming, preferably in Python and/or C/C++ programming languages
  • knowledge of working with sensors, actuators, embedded computer systems, and/or data acquisition systems
  • active knowledge of English in speaking and writing
  • desirable experience in 3D CAD modeling and additive manufacturing, including preparation of digital models for fabrication, selection and adjustment of process parameters, handling 3D printers, and fabrication and finishing of prototype parts

Applicants will be notified of the result of the competition within the period prescribed by law.

Competition documentation, i.e., data on candidates, is kept for three months from the date of signing the employment contract with the selected candidate. After the expiration of the storage period, the documentation is destroyed, provided that each candidate may collect their documentation from the employer's office before the expiration of the storage period.

Persons of both sexes have the right to apply for the competition under equal conditions.
