Technical Delivery Lead: Java 21 Plus Spring Reactive
The Technical Delivery Lead is accountable for the end-to-end technical delivery of technology products and capabilities, providing engineering leadership across solution implementation, software quality, technical debt, dependencies, releases and production readiness. The role works closely with Product, Business, Architecture, Engineering and other technology stakeholders to ensure delivery is predictable, high quality and production-ready. The role requires strong hands-on expertise in Java development and Spring Reactive Programming, alongside the ability to lead engineering execution and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Engineering
- Provide technical direction to engineers and act as the primary technical point of contact for engineering delivery.
- Guide engineers in translating requirements and agreed solution designs into robust, scalable, secure and maintainable
software.
- Review technical approaches and code; provide constructive challenge and pragmatic recommendations.
- Partner with Solution Architects on design decisions and ensure the agreed architecture is implemented effectively.
- Establish engineering standards and promote sound practices for version control, code reviews, testing, environment
management and deployment.
End-to-End Delivery & Agile Execution
- Own engineering delivery from requirements through development, testing, release and production.
- Drive delivery planning, sprint execution, estimation, milestone tracking and forecasting.
- Support backlog refinement, sprint planning and execution; contribute engineering input to SAFe PI Planning where
applicable.
- Identify and manage technical blockers, risks, issues and cross-team dependencies early, driving them through to
resolution.
- Balance scope, quality, technical debt, risk and timelines with Product and other stakeholders; communicate status and
trade-offs clearly.
Engineering Quality, Testing & Production Readiness
- Own technical health, including code quality, maintainability, reliability, performance, supportability and technical debt.
- Promote a strong testing culture, including unit, integration and automated testing, with TDD/BDD practices using tools
such as JUnit, Mockito and Cucumber.
- Coordinate release activities across development, testing, environments, CI/CD, deployment and operational
readiness.
- Ensure production-readiness documentation, monitoring, support arrangements and release-risk mitigations are in
place.
- Review post-release outcomes, address recurring technical issues and turn lessons learned into lasting improvements.
Stakeholder & Cross-Team Collaboration
- Work closely with Product Owners/Managers, Business Analysts, Solution Architects, software engineers and
technology/operations teams.
- Translate business requirements into engineering considerations, delivery plans and realistic commitments.
- Coordinate cross-team decisions and dependencies; escalate issues with clear options and recommendations.
- Provide transparent updates on delivery progress, technical constraints, risks and trade-offs to technical and
non-technical stakeholders.
