Today, we are part of a fast-growing group with operations across Africa, Europe, North America and the UAE, with a mission to power payments and remittances across borders and beyond.
Our group entities span multiple jurisdictions and regulatory environments, and the legal work that supports them is varied, consequential and growing. We are looking for a commercially minded, common law-trained lawyer to join us as In-House Legal Counsel and serve as the legal backbone of the group as we scale.
The Role
As In-House Legal Counsel, you will be the primary legal resource for the group, working closely with the executive team, regulatory and compliance functions, and commercial teams across our jurisdictions in Africa, Europe, North America and the UAE. You will manage a broad and dynamic workload, from reviewing partnership and licensing agreements with banks, mobile network operators, and payment schemes across all group entities.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is comfortable operating with autonomy, juggling multiple jurisdictions, and translating complex legal issues into practical commercial advice. We are looking for someone with a genuine international outlook: someone who has worked across borders, is comfortable with legal ambiguity in evolving markets, and can bring a growth mindset to the legal function.
The engagement may be structured as a consultancy arrangement or employment, depending on the candidate’s circumstances and jurisdiction. Remote working is an accommodation available to the right candidate, not a defining feature of the role.
Key ResponsibilitiesCommercial agreements
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements including bank partnership agreements, mobile money scheme agreements, remittance and payment scheme arrangements, technology and vendor contracts, and addenda to existing arrangements.
• Maintain an organised tracker of all group agreements, renewals, and key obligations.
Corporate governance
• Prepare and manage board resolutions across the group, shareholder resolutions, written consents, and other corporate documents across group entities.
• Support new entity incorporations and corporate restructurings where necessary.
• Maintain corporate records and statutory registers in coordination with company secretaries and registered agents.
Regulatory support
• Work alongside compliance and regulatory teams to support licence applications, renewals, and regulatory filings across our active and target jurisdictions.
• Support engagement with regulators on legal matters arising from licence applications and ongoing supervision.
• Assist with regulatory notifications relating to corporate changes.
General counsel duties
• Advise the business on legal risk and provide pragmatic, commercially grounded guidance.
• Support dispute resolution and escalations as they arise.
• Contribute to internal policies, templates, and legal process improvements.
• Manage external advisers to the group.
What We’re Looking ForEssential
• Qualified lawyer in a common law jurisdiction (Ghana, UK, or similar) with a current practising qualification.
• Minimum 7 years of post-qualification experience.
• Demonstrable experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements.
• Strong understanding of corporate governance and corporate secretarial matters.
• Comfortable managing legal work across multiple jurisdictions and coordinating external counsel.
• A genuine international outlook: experience working across borders and jurisdictions, with the adaptability to operate in markets where the legal landscape is still evolving.
• Highly organised, with the ability to manage a varied workload independently.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strongly preferred
• Experience in fintech, payments, remittances, banking, or other regulated financial services.
• Familiarity with payment regulation in one or more of our active jurisdictions.
• Exposure to or working knowledge of civil law systems, particularly in Francophone jurisdictions, would be an advantage.

Reporting
This role reports directly to the CEO.
