About the team
The Compliance, Oversight, Risk and Assurance team ensures the organisation meets regulatory expectations, manages key risks, and maintains strong governance across areas including Compliance Oversight, Outcomes Monitoring, Conduct Risk, Horizon Scanning, Regulatory Liaison, Data Protection, Financial Crime, Regulatory Policy, Governance, Whistleblowing, Complaints, Customer Communications, Consumer Duty reporting, and regulatory permissions.
Within the team, Risk & Assurance provides independent challenge and oversight. Assurance delivers objective testing of controls, giving evidence that risks are well managed. Risk Management oversees the Enterprise Risk Management framework, including risk appetite, incident management, monitoring, and reporting.
The role
Reporting to the Risk and Assurance Manager, you will execute core risk and assurance activities as the primary executor of departmental processes, delivering independent assurance reviews and administering the Enterprise Risk Management framework.
Key responsibilities
- Execute independent assurance reviews and control testing to assess effectiveness of first-line controls and oversight mechanisms
- Produce clear, evidence-based draft assurance reports with actionable recommendations for senior review
- Maintain risk registers, dashboards, and reporting packs for executive and board-level committees
- Administer daily operation of the Enterprise Risk Management framework for consistent risk identification, assessment, and monitoring
- Track performance against risk appetite framework and collate data on targets and tolerances
- Investigate and analyse risk events/incidents, complete root-cause analysis, and track remediation to resolution
- Undertake horizon scanning to identify emerging risks, trends, and regulatory developments
- Complete third-party and supplier due diligence assessments
- Drive continuous improvement across risk and assurance activities
- Support the Compliance & Oversight team as required
- Any other duties deemed appropriate by the business
Qualifications (minimum)
- Good standard of verbal and written English communication
- At least 2 years in Risk, Assurance, Compliance, Internal Audit, or related governance within financial services or a regulated environment
- Strong understanding of regulatory expectations relevant to the sector, including FCA, PRA, Consumer Duty, and financial crime obligations
- Ability to manage multiple assurance and risk activities simultaneously to tight deadlines
- High attention to detail with excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills
Qualifications (additional)
- Articulate and persuasive, able to communicate risk and assurance concepts to technical and non-technical employees
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, able to manage changing priorities
- Experience providing constructive feedback or coaching to peers
- Effective team member who also works well on own initiative
Desirable
- Professional qualifications such as IRM, ICA, IIA, ISO-based certifications, or equivalent
- Experience using GRC or risk management software tools
- Prior involvement in third-party/supplier risk assessments and audit coordination
- Experience with Consumer Duty, conduct risk frameworks, or outcomes monitoring
- Exposure to data governance, data protection, or financial crime risk
- Background in fast-growth, change-heavy, or multi-regulated environments
