Etterretningstjenesten – Knowledge of the world for the protection of Norway

The mission of Etterretningstjenesten is to collect information and provide warnings about conditions abroad that could threaten Norway and Norwegian interests. We do this, among other things, through the use of cyber operations.

We are now seeking several developers for the professional environment that creates the tools used in these operations. Tasks

• Development, operation, and maintenance of tools for cyber operations
• Design, architecture, and mapping work when designing new tools
• Monitoring technological developments and actively exploring possibilities within new technology

Some of our developers also work with:

• Planning and coordination of development activities
• Implementing quality assurance processes and security routines
• Development and setup of test and development environments
• Risk assessment within their own field of expertise

Qualifications

The position has the following requirements that must be met to be considered a relevant applicant:

Depending on background and experience, the right candidate will be offered a position as overingeniør or senioringeniør.

For both senioringeniør and overingeniør, the following is required:

• Relevant experience with good results.
• Experience with software development.
• Good skills in English.

For the position of senioringeniør, the following is required:

• A Master's degree or education at an equivalent level (main subject, professional studies, etc.) or scope within a relevant field. A relevant Bachelor's degree or education at an equivalent level and several years of experience with good results may compensate for the education requirement.

For the position of overingeniør, the following is required:

• A Bachelor's degree or education at an equivalent level (cand.-degrees, former engineering education, etc.) or scope within a relevant field. Relevant higher education and several years of experience with good results may compensate for the education requirement.

We are particularly looking for candidates with skills in one or more of the following areas:

• Good programming skills in at least one language, e.g., C, C++, Go, or Rust
• Low-level programming in Linux and/or Windows
• Operating system-level troubleshooting and debugging
• Knowledge of Assembly
• Reversing
• API-design
• Testing and quality assurance of software
• Use of AI for one or more of these tasks

Special requirements for a position in Etterretningstjenesten:

Applicants must satisfy the requirements for the highest security clearance.

For employment in Etterretningstjenesten, one cannot have any citizenship other than Norwegian at the time of employment.

The position is subject to compulsory service, cf. the Defense Act and the Defense Personnel Regulations, which means that you can be ordered to international operations. This normally occurs on the basis of willingness. Compulsory service entails requirements for medical and physical fitness and basic English skills. If you do not meet the requirements, you have the opportunity to apply for an exemption.

You will receive an annual salary within the range of NOK 690,000 – 830,000 in the position of overingeniør (code: 1087) or NOK 785,000 – 980,000 in the position of senioringeniør (code: 1181) according to the current Hovedtariffavtale. For particularly qualified applicants, higher salary may be considered. Final salary placement and position code depend on qualifications.
