Etterretningstjenesten – Knowledge of the world for the protection of Norway

The mission of Etterretningstjenesten is to collect information and provide warnings about conditions abroad that may threaten Norway and Norwegian interests. Foreign states' cyber operations are such a threat. Through the use of various methods, techniques, and extensive national and international cooperation, Etterretningstjenesten contributes to uncovering and countering digital threats.

Our professional environment is growing, and we are seeking more analysts within reverse engineering and malware analysis. Tasks

• Conduct technical analysis, targeting, reversing of binary files and tools
• Prepare technical reporting
• Stay updated on developments within the field
• Contribute to the further development of systems, techniques, processes, and methods

Senioringeniør:

• Conduct technical training of employees
• Follow-up and coordination with other relevant partners

Qualifications

The position has the following requirements that must be met to be considered a relevant applicant:

For overingeniør:

• Bachelor's degree or education at an equivalent level (major, professional studies, etc.) or scope within a relevant field (e.g., informatics, information technology, technical education, computer technology, or similar). Several years of relevant experience with good results may compensate for the education requirement
• Good knowledge of fundamental information security.
• Experience in decompilation, reverse engineering, or debugging of code (e.g., using OllyDbg, WinDbg, GDB, IDA Pro, etc.)
• Good programming skills (C/C++, Python, etc.)
• Good written and oral language skills in English

For senioringeniør:

• Master's degree or education at an equivalent level (major, professional studies, etc.) or scope within a relevant field (e.g., informatics, information technology, technical education, computer technology, or similar). Several years of relevant experience with good results may compensate for the education requirement
• Relevant experience in analysis and debugging of code with tools such as WinDbg, x64dbg, GDB, IDA Pro, Ghidra
• Good knowledge of operating systems, such as software structure in memory
• Several years of experience with malware analysis and production of analysis reports or equivalent experience
• Good written and oral language skills in English

In addition, it is desirable if you have:

• Relevant experience with security incident analysis
• Good knowledge of assembly programming language
• Competence in analysis of exploit code and kernel debugging
• Background from Forsvaret

Special requirements for a position in Etterretningstjenesten:

Applicants must satisfy the requirements for the highest security clearance.

For employment in Etterretningstjenesten, one cannot have any citizenship other than Norwegian at the time of employment.

The position is subject to compulsory service, cf. the defense act and the defense personnel regulations, which means that you can be ordered to international operations. This normally occurs on the basis of willingness. Compulsory service entails requirements for medical and physical fitness and basic English skills. If you do not meet the requirements, you have the opportunity to apply for an exemption.

You will receive an annual salary within the range of NOK 690,000 – 830,000 in the position of Overingeniør (code: 1087) or within the range of NOK 785,000 – 980,000 in the position of Senioringeniør (code: 1181) according to the current Hovedtariffavtale. Final salary placement and position code depend on qualifications.
