Etterretningstjenesten – Knowledge about the world for the protection of Norway

The mission of Etterretningstjenesten is to collect information and provide warnings about conditions abroad that may threaten Norway and Norwegian interests.

We are now looking for platform developers who will play a central role in the establishment and further development of our data platform.

We are looking for employees with both short and long experience as a platform developer.

Arbeidsoppgaver

We are looking for a platform developer whose main focus will be the development of data platform solutions. Tasks include:

Overingeniør:

• Develop and build data platform.

Senioringeniør (tech lead):

• Design, develop, and build data platform
• Lead and participate in projects/working groups/councils in other parts of the service within the department's area of responsibility. Overingeniør: Participate in projects/working groups/councils in other parts of the service within the department's area of responsibility.

Kvalifikasjoner

The position has the following requirements that must be met to be considered a relevant applicant:

Senioringeniør:

• Master's degree or education at an equivalent level (major, professional studies, etc.) or scope within a relevant field. Several years of relevant experience with good results may compensate for the education requirement.

Overingeniør:

• Bachelor's degree or education at an equivalent level (cand.-degrees, former engineering education, etc.) or scope within a relevant field. Relevant higher education and several years of experience with good results may compensate for the education requirement.

For both position codes:

• Experience with software development in a production environment
• Experience building or operating datapipelines, data platforms, analysis systems, or backend services that process data

• Good knowledge of at least one programming language such as Python, Java, Go, or similar
• Strong SQL skills and practical understanding of analytical data

• Knowledge of typical challenges within data engineering, such as schema changes, data quality, retries, backfills, monitoring, and operational support
• Ability to design maintainable systems and communicate technical trade-offs in a clear manner

In addition, it is desirable if you have:

• Experience building platform features, frameworks, libraries, APIs, or tools for self-service
• Experience with distributed data processing, streaming systems, lakehouse/warehouse architecture, or analytical query engines

• Experience with metadata catalogs, lineage, data contracts, schema registries, or data quality frameworks
• Experience with access control, policy-based authorization, data classification, audit logging, or secure data sharing

• Experience with containerized production environments and collaboration with infrastructure and platform teams
• Experience with operating production systems for data, including observability, incident management, and improving operational reliability

• Experience with machine learning, AI, search technology, or vector search
• Experience working with sensitive datasets

Special requirements for a position in Etterretningstjenesten:

Applicants must satisfy the requirements for the highest security clearance.

For employment in Etterretningstjenesten, one cannot have any citizenship other than Norwegian at the time of employment.

The position is subject to compulsory service, cf. the Defense Act and the Defense Personnel Regulations, which means that you can be ordered to international operations. This normally occurs on the basis of willingness. Compulsory service entails requirements for medical and physical fitness and basic English skills. If you do not meet the requirements, you have the opportunity to apply for an exemption.

You will receive an annual salary within the range of NOK 785,000 - 980,000 as senioringeniør (code: 1181), and 690,000 - 830,000 as overingeniør (code 1087) according to the current Hovedtariffavtale. For particularly qualified applicants, higher salary may be considered. Final salary placement and position code depend on qualifications.
