Maintenance Engineer
About the company
Our fleet of heavy vehicles and plant forklifts is the logistical backbone of our resource recovery operations—hauling industrial waste streams across Singapore and moving thousands of tonnes of materials across our Tuas processing facilities every month. When a truck or forklift is down, collections stall and plant productivity suffers.
Your tasks
We are looking for a hands-on, technically sharp Maintenance / Service Engineer to join our Maintenance Team. You will take direct ownership of the servicing, root-cause diagnostics, and repair of our heavy commercial vehicles and industrial forklifts.
We practice holistic, total maintenance—by planning, doing, and enforcing. We need a resourceful problem-solver who doesn't just change oil and filters, but systematically diagnoses mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults, guides drivers through breakdowns over the phone, and keeps crystal-clear maintenance and regulatory records for every asset in the fleet.
1. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance (Heavy Vehicles & Forklifts)
- Plan and execute scheduled Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs across our fleet of heavy commercial vehicles (trucks, hooklifts, vacuum tankers, prime movers) and industrial forklifts (diesel and electric) to eliminate preventable breakdowns and maximize fleet uptime.
- Carry out hands-on corrective repairs and component replacements across diesel engines, cooling systems, transmissions, axles, air and hydraulic braking systems, steering and suspension, hydraulic pumps/cylinders/hoses, and forklift masts, chains, and carriages.
2. Root-Cause Diagnostics (Mechanical, Hydraulic & Electrical)
- Diagnose complex faults accurately to identify true root causes—avoiding unnecessary part-swapping and repeat failures.
- Troubleshoot and repair 12V/24V auto-electrical and electronic systems, including starters, alternators, batteries, wiring harnesses, relays, sensors, solenoids, lighting, and onboard fault codes using diagnostic scanners and multimeters.
3. Remote Technical Triage & Breakdown Response
- Act as the first line of technical support for drivers on the road and operators on the plant floor—diagnosing symptoms over the phone, walking drivers through safe checks and quick fixes, and providing clear, real-time technical assessments to the Maintenance Manager.
- Respond promptly to urgent site service requests and emergency roadside or plant breakdowns to get assets back into service safely and quickly.
4. Fleet Documentation, Parts Tracking & Cost Discipline
- Maintain complete, accurate, unit-by-unit service histories for every vehicle and forklift—logging exact work performed, root cause identified, parts and consumables used, and labour hours spent.
- Submit clear service reports and recurring-fault feedback to the Maintenance Manager to help curb premature wear, driver misuse, and operating expenses.
5. Regulatory Inspections & Fleet Compliance Tracking
- Maintain an accurate master schedule for all fleet statutory requirements to ensure 100% on-time compliance with zero operational lapses, including:
- LTA statutory periodic vehicle inspections (VICOM/STA) and road tax renewals.
- Motor insurance renewals and fleet coverage tracking.
- MOM statutory Lifting Machine (LM) inspections for forklifts, tailgates, and vehicle-mounted lifting equipment.
Requirements
Experience: Minimum 3 to 5 years of proven, hands-on experience maintaining and repairing commercial heavy vehicles (Class 4/5 trucks, hooklifts, tankers) and industrial forklifts in a fleet, logistics, plant, or heavy workshop environment.
Technical Competence: Thorough practical knowledge of heavy diesel mechanics, high-pressure hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and 12V/24V electrical diagnostics.
Remote Troubleshooting Skills: Proven ability to solve technical problems over the phone—able to ask the right diagnostic questions, calm a stranded driver, and give clear step-by-step instructions.
Communication: Clear, straightforward communicator who works effectively with drivers, forklift operators, external parts vendors, and the Maintenance Manager.
Data & Administrative Rigor: Disciplined and organized in maintaining vehicle service logs, parts records, and statutory inspection/insurance calendars.
Mobility: Must possess own transport and a valid Singapore driving licence to respond swiftly to breakdowns and move between sites.
Mindset: Strong sense of ownership, frugality with parts and consumables, and an uncompromising commitment to workplace and road safety.ms over the phone.
- Able to communicate effectively with drivers and with the Maintenance Manager.
- Possess own transport.
