Automation - Software engineer
As an Automation Engineer, you take responsibility for software development within technical automation projects. You ensure that software solutions are correctly designed, implemented, tested, and maintained according to the applicable quality procedures. Within this senior role, the focus lies on reliable software, efficient project execution, and clear technical coordination. By taking cost, quality, and planning into account, you contribute to sustainable automation solutions and the successful delivery of projects.
What will you do?
Software development and validation
Develop automation software. You program and configure software for industrial automation projects and translate technical requirements into stable, maintainable, and practically deployable solutions. Implement and test software. You are responsible for the implementation, installation, and functional validation of software. During the testing phase, you analyze deviations and perform the necessary adjustments to guarantee reliable operation. Maintain and optimize software. You support existing installations, perform changes and updates, and monitor the quality and continuity of the software throughout its entire lifecycle. Prepare validation documentation. You create the required software validation documents and ensure that testing, changes, and results are fully and traceably recorded according to the applicable quality procedures.
Project follow-up and technical coordination
Realize projects efficiently. You organize software activities according to the most efficient principles while monitoring the balance between cost, quality, and planning. Be a technical point of contact. You act as an internal and external point of contact for software-related questions within projects and support colleagues, customers, and other stakeholders with targeted technical expertise. Coordinate technical choices. You consult with the involved project teams regarding architecture, functionalities, interfaces, and possible risks, and translate this coordination into concrete software solutions. Monitor quality procedures. You perform activities consistently according to the established quality standards and ensure that software development, testing, and documentation meet the predefined requirements.
Who are you?
You possess at least a bachelor's degree in electronics, software development, or a comparable technical field. Equivalent expertise built through relevant practical experience is also eligible. You have more than ten years of experience within industrial automation and software development. You possess thorough knowledge of Siemens TIA Portal and are familiar with programming languages such as SCL, STL, and LAD. Additionally, you have experience with SQL and industrial software environments. Knowledge of Schneider-drives is an advantage. Experience with .NET is an additional asset. You combine strong technical depth with a structured and quality-oriented approach. You work independently, take responsibility for software tasks, and know how to coordinate technical issues clearly with internal and external stakeholders. You communicate fluently in English. Knowledge of Dutch is an advantage. You are willing to work three days a week in the office in Halle or Wommelgem and live within a feasible distance of a maximum of approximately 45 minutes from one of these locations.
