We are seeking an experienced Virtualization Migration Engineer to plan, implement, and execute the migration of enterprise workloads from VMware vSphere/ESXi to Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager (OLVM). The engineer will assess the existing VMware environment, prepare the target Oracle Linux KVM infrastructure, execute migration activities, and validate migrated workloads. The role requires hands-on expertise in virtualization, Linux administration, networking, storage, and migration troubleshooting. Oracle supports importing VMware virtual machines into OLVM using tools such as virt-v2v [oracle +1]. Required Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience administering VMware vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi.
  • Practical experience deploying or administering Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager and Oracle Linux KVM.
  • Strong Linux systems administration and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with virtual machine migration, conversion, cutover planning, and rollback execution.
  • Working knowledge of virt-v2v, guest drivers, virtual disk conversion, and VM import workflows. These are central components of Oracle’s documented VMware-to-OLVM migration approach [oracle].
  • Understanding of virtualization networking, including VLANs, bonding, routing, DNS, and network segmentation.
  • Experience with enterprise storage technologies, such as NFS, iSCSI, or Fibre Channel.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Linux and Windows guest operating systems.
  • Experience coordinating production changes, application testing, and operational handovers.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience completing VMware-to-KVM or VMware-to-OLVM migration projects.
  • Bash, Python, or Ansible scripting skills.
  • Experience automating migration workflows; Oracle documents a virt-v2v automation approach using Oracle Linux Automation Manager [oracle].
  • Experience with backup, disaster recovery, infrastructure monitoring, and security hardening.
  • Familiarity with database and other business-critical workload migration requirements.
  • Relevant Oracle Linux, Linux administration, or VMware certifications.
