Accountant

Elia is the operator of the Belgian high-voltage grid from 380 kV to 30 kV. Elia is responsible for the development and maintenance of this grid, makes it accessible to users, and manages energy flows. The Elia group has a team of 2000 professionals whose mission is to ensure the continuity of the electricity supply in Belgium and part of Germany. As the owner and operator of the transmission grids in Belgium and Germany, Elia plays an important role and has a mission to support and realize European energy and climate policy.

Our Finance team plays a crucial role in ensuring strong financial performance and good governance. We manage relationships with our suppliers, investors, shareholders, financial institutions, and regulatory authorities.

To strengthen our accounting team, we are looking for a G/L Accountant. In this role, you will work closely with our Accounting Manager and contribute to the accuracy and reliability of our financial reporting and accounting processes.

Function:

As a G/L Accountant, you are responsible for the following tasks:

• Independently managing and performing monthly and year-end closings (general ledger accounting, payroll accounting, tax accounting, and complex accounting transactions) for centrally managed Belgian companies, in close cooperation with the Accounting Manager (BEGAAP/GEGAAP and IFRS in a SAP environment and an international context).
• Being responsible for the correct and timely monthly calculation and documentation of certain IFRS adjustments.
• Reconciling accounts and performing quality controls to ensure the accuracy of the figures, including the documentation of more complex accounting transactions.
• Providing support in the ICO reconciliation process.
• Preparing monthly/period-based reporting packages (BEGAAP/GEGAAP and IFRS) under the supervision of the management team.
• Performing analytical checks of the monthly figures to provide insights to local teams and controllers.
• Identifying opportunities for process improvements and enhancements of internal controls, and leading and/or following up on the implementation of solutions.
• Participating in and/or leading digital/IT projects within the Group (strengthened collaboration between Belgium and Germany).
• Collaborating with auditors.
• Supporting the development and implementation of accounting policies (accounting manual, accounting memo) and procedures.
• Preparing (from A to Z), coordinating and/or reviewing reports for various internal and external bodies such as EGI, analysts, tax authorities, etc.
• Being able to represent the department in multidisciplinary discussions and reporting to the Accounting Manager.
• Acting as a back-up to support the Accounting & Tax team transversally.

Your Profile

• You hold a bachelor's degree in accountancy or equivalent experience (CA, CPA or equivalent is a plus).
• You have at least 3 years of experience in a similar role.
• You have a good knowledge of German and English (knowledge of Dutch and French is a plus).
• You have practical knowledge of BEGAAP/GEGAAP/IFRS.
• You work fluently with the SAP accounting package (knowledge of SAP Public Cloud is a plus).
• You also work fluently with MS Office and are an expert in Excel.
• You possess strong analytical skills, a problem-solving mindset, are proactive, and adapt easily to changes. You can work independently but also function excellently in a team.
