North London | Primary School | Full-Time | Long-Term | ASAP Start

Are you an experienced Youth Worker who is passionate about supporting children and young people?

We are working with a welcoming primary school in North London that is looking for a confident, approachable and proactive Youth Worker to join their pastoral and SEN team on a full-time, long-term basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in youth work, community outreach, mentoring or family support who would like to bring their skills into a school environment.

You do not necessarily need previous classroom experience . We are particularly interested in people who are naturally good at building relationships with young people, understand challenging behaviour and can provide a consistent and positive adult presence.

The Role

You will work across the primary school supporting pupils who may require additional help with their behaviour, emotional wellbeing, confidence, social skills and engagement with education .

Some pupils may have additional needs such as ADHD, Autism, SEMH, behavioural difficulties or social and emotional needs , while others may simply benefit from having a trusted adult they can speak to and work with.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 mentoring and pastoral support to individual pupils
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with children
  • Supporting pupils experiencing social, emotional or behavioural difficulties
  • Helping children understand and manage their emotions
  • Supporting emotional regulation and de-escalation
  • Identifying triggers behind challenging behaviour
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and reinforcing clear boundaries
  • Supporting pupils who are struggling to engage within the classroom
  • Helping children develop their confidence, resilience and self-esteem
  • Supporting positive friendships and social interaction
  • Running small-group mentoring, social skills or wellbeing sessions
  • Supporting pupils during transitions, break times and less structured parts of the school day
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff and families
  • Helping pupils develop strategies that allow them to re-engage positively with learning and school life

Who Are We Looking For?

We would particularly like to hear from candidates who have worked within:

  • Youth centres
  • Youth outreach
  • Community projects
  • Youth charities
  • Mentoring programmes
  • Local authority youth services
  • Family support
  • Sports or community programmes
  • Alternative provision
  • Behaviour or pastoral support

Experience supporting children with SEMH, ADHD, Autism, challenging behaviour, trauma or difficult home circumstances would be particularly valuable.

Your Youth Work Experience Is Transferable

You don't need to have spent years working as a Teaching Assistant.

If you're used to building rapport with young people, managing difficult conversations, setting boundaries, encouraging positive choices and remaining calm when behaviour becomes challenging , you already have many of the skills required for this position.

The school is looking for someone who is patient, resilient, approachable and consistent . You should be able to connect with children while understanding that being supportive also means maintaining clear expectations and boundaries.

Why Work in a Primary School?

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Youth Worker looking for a stable, Monday-Friday position while continuing to make a difference to young people's lives.

You'll have the opportunity to work with children at an earlier stage, helping them develop the emotional, social and behavioural skills that can have a significant impact on their future education.

The role would also provide excellent experience for anyone looking to develop a longer-term career within pastoral care, SEN, behaviour support, education, social work or child and family services .
