Senior Data Engineer wanted in Belgium (hybrid) strong experience with SQL, Python, dbt & BigQuery?

For an international organization active within embedded insurance, we are urgently looking for a Senior Data Engineer for an impactful project.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a key role within the data team. You are responsible for designing, building, and optimizing complex data processes and financial reports — from initial prototype to a stable production environment.

You work from a strong engineering mindset, with a high focus on quality, scalability, security, and operational excellence. At the same time, you will receive a lot of autonomy and space to make technical choices and further improve the data architecture.

• Data Warehouse: Google BigQuery
• Data Transformation & Ingestion: dbt, Airbyte
• Programming & scripting: Python, SQL, Bash
• BI & Data Visualization: Looker
• DevOps & Quality: Git, Docker, CI/CD
• Testing: Unit testing & integration testing
• AI-first culture: active use of AI-agents to accelerate development, testing, and deployment

Your responsibilitiesData, financial reporting & pipelines

• Designing, building, maintaining, and optimizing robust dbt data pipelines
• Developing flexible data models that can grow with new insurance products
• Setting up and improving complex financial reports
• Developing data solutions from prototype to production
• Optimizing BigQuery structures and reducing redundancy and data silos

Data governance & quality

• Implementing automated quality controls and anomaly detection
• Writing and maintaining unit and integration tests
• Monitoring data security, privacy, and access management
• Ensuring clear data lineage and reliable financial and operational data

Technical leadership & operations

• Collaborating with the broader data team on the further development of the data architecture
• Promoting best practices through code reviews, documentation, and technical knowledge sessions
• Supporting stakeholders to use data more independently and effectively
• Contributing to a scalable, efficient, and future-proof data environment

ProfileMust-haves

• At least 5 years of hands-on experience with SQL and complex data modeling
• Strong experience with dbt and Python in production environments
• Experience with modern cloud platforms and serverless data warehouses; BigQuery is a strong plus
• Good knowledge of Git, Bash, Docker, and CI/CD
• Experience with unit testing and integration testing
• A pragmatic engineering mindset: you know how to combine quality and architecture with speed
• You enjoy working independently and taking ownership of your projects
• Strong communication skills
• Fluent English

• Master's degree in STEM
• Professional working knowledge of Dutch
• Experience within FinTech, InsurTech, or financial reporting systems
