SEMH Teaching Assistant
A welcoming and nurturing specialist primary school in Richmond is seeking 2 SEMH Teaching Assistants to join their team ASAP. This is an exciting opportunity to support children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs alongside a range of additional learning and developmental needs.
You will be working within a specialist setting where pupils benefit from a personalised approach to learning, with a strong focus on developing confidence, resilience, positive relationships and emotional regulation. You will work closely with the class teacher and other support staff to help pupils engage with learning and reach their full potential.
The ideal candidate for the SEMH Teaching Assistant role would be a Psychology graduate looking to pursue a career in Education, Therapy, Psychological Research, Mental Health, Speech and Language and many more! Alternatively, someone with previous SEMH, SEN or behavioural support experience and a genuine passion for making a difference would be well suited to this opportunity.

- Full-time role (term-time only) - Monday to Friday - No weekends
About the SEMH Teaching Assistant Role
- Supporting primary-aged pupils with SEMH needs and additional SEN requirements.
- Providing tailored 1:1 and small-group support to help pupils access learning and manage their emotions.
- Working alongside the class teacher and wider support team to create a positive and structured learning environment.
- Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, social development and building positive relationships.
- Encouraging engagement, independence and confidence both inside and outside the classroom.
- Adapting your approach to meet the individual needs of each child.
SEMH Teaching Assistant - Person Specification
- A degree in Psychology, Education, Criminology, Sociology or a related subject would be beneficial but is not essential.
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEN or behavioural needs is desirable.
- A patient, resilient and empathetic approach.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- A genuine passion for supporting children who face barriers to learning.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn from experienced teachers and support staff.
