gas technician

Education:

Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.

Work setting:

Various locations.

Tasks:

• Attend to gas escape calls.
• Install gas heating units and their components.
• Measure and mark reference points for installation of gas lines and equipment.
• Service gas heating units and their components.
• Install and maintain meters and regulators and gas lines between gas unit and gas meter.
• Prepare tenders and quotations.
• Instruct apprentices.
• Advise clients regarding standards, safety features and maintenance of gas units and systems.
• Supervise other workers.
• Test and adjust control mechanisms and check pipes and piping connections for gas leaks using gas detecting devices.

Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses :

• Gas Fitter Certificate - Level 2 or B.
• Gas Fitter Certificate - Level 3 or C.

Transportation/travel information:

Valid driver's licence.

Work conditions and physical capabilities:

Attention to detail. Bending, crouching, kneeling.
