Accountant – German Speaking

Location: Radlett, Hertfordshire | Full-time, office-based

Dynamic Infrastructure is a growing infrastructure company with long-term contracts and operations across the UK and Germany. We are seeking an experienced German-speaking Accountant to join our finance team and support the accounting, reporting and compliance requirements of our German operations.

This role requires proven, hands-on experience in German accounting , alongside the ability to communicate confidently with German accountants, suppliers and project teams.

Essential experience and knowledge

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Fluent written and spoken German , including the ability to understand financial documents and discuss accounting and tax matters professionally.
  • Previous experience working in an accounting role in Germany or directly managing accounts for a German business.
  • A sound working knowledge of German commercial accounting requirements under the Handelsgesetzbuch (HGB) and German generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Practical knowledge of German VAT (Umsatzsteuer) , including invoice requirements, input VAT, VAT reconciliations and the preparation of information for VAT returns.
  • Experience maintaining purchase, sales and general ledgers, completing bank reconciliations and resolving discrepancies.
  • Experience supporting month-end and year-end processes, including accruals, prepayments, fixed assets and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • An understanding of German requirements for accounting documentation, record retention and maintaining a clear audit trail.
  • Experience working with German external accountants or tax advisers ( Steuerberater ) and preparing accurate supporting information for statutory accounts and tax filings.
  • Strong Excel skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage deadlines independently.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting activities for our German operations, ensuring records are accurate, complete and up to date.
  • Process supplier invoices, customer invoices, payments and receipts, checking coding, supporting documentation and VAT treatment.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, supplier and customer balances, and relevant general ledger accounts.
  • Support month-end reporting and year-end preparation, including journals, accruals, prepayments and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and reconcile financial information required by our German accountants and tax advisers.
  • Liaise with German suppliers, customers and project teams to resolve invoice queries and accounting issues.
  • Maintain accurate project financial records, supporting cost tracking and reporting.
  • Identify discrepancies or potential compliance issues and work with the finance team and external advisers to resolve them.
  • Support the wider finance team across our UK and German businesses.

Desirable experience

  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
  • DATEV and familiarity with German charts of accounts, such as SKR03 or SKR04.
  • Accounting experience within construction, infrastructure, utilities or engineering.
  • Knowledge of German VAT treatment relevant to construction services, including applicable reverse-charge procedures.
  • Experience with intercompany transactions and cross-border accounting.
  • A relevant accounting qualification or recognised German accounting training.
