This position is located in the DEA, Financial Management Division (FC), Office of Resource Management (FR), Controls and Coordination Sections (FRB), Funds Control Unit (FRBF) and Technical Analysis Unit (FRBT). This position(s) primary purpose is to monitor and successfully manage and implement Agency wide budgeting and spending plans.

Major duties

As a your typical work assignments may include: Establishes and maintains effective intra-agency relationships to provide support and assistance to offices requiring change requests of funding types, sources, or have strict spending restrictions. Prepares for review properly formatted financial documents for supervisory review and approval. Supports the development of strategies to ensure DEA offices are taking appropriate action on their current and prior year undelivered order balances. Works closely with other finance offices to gather financial or budgetary information and provide feedback to assist in other facets of program financial planning.

Applicants applying for the GS-09 must meet one of the following requirements: A. Have at least one full year of specialized experience that is at least equivalent to work performed at the GS-07 grade level. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assisting with formulating budget estimates and projections; 2) Assisting with interpreting financial policies and guidance to answer routine budget-related questions; 3) Utilizing financial management systems to track and/or report program spending; and 4) Maintaining the accuracy of financial information and data. OR B. Education: master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related OR C. Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Applicants applying for the GS-11 must meet one of the following requirements: A. Have at least one full year of specialized experience that is at least equivalent to work performed at the GS-09 grade level. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Formulating budget estimates and projects to support program activities; 2) Interpreting financial policies and guidance to resolve budget-related questions and issues; 3) Utilizing financial management systems to process and monitor financial transactions and/or analyze financial data; and 4) Reviewing and analyzing documentation to monitor program spending and identify and resolve discrepancies. OR B. Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related OR C. Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
