veterinary technician

Education:

College/CEGEP. Veterinary/animal health technology/technician and veterinary assistant. or equivalent experience.

Tasks:

• Collect samples and perform other laboratory tests.
• Handle, restrain and care for animals undergoing treatment and surgery.
• Produce diagnostic radiographs.
• Assist veterinarian before, during and after surgery.
• Prepare and administer medications and vaccines under direction of veterinarian.
• Administer treatments as prescribed by veterinarian.
• Counsel clients on animal health care.
• May perform a variety of office management and clerical duties.
• Perform routine animal dental procedures and assist veterinarians with animal dentistry.
• Provide nursing care and rehabilitation therapy for animals.
• Provide wound and bandage care.
• Provide a range of veterinary services including obstetrics, dentistry and euthanasia.
