About the company

Important Notice Dovetail and Slate is a specialist justice and rehabilitation recruitment company. If this role isn't quite right, we welcome your CV and a call to explore other opportunities.

Your tasks

About the Role We are recruiting a Generalist Tutor to join the education team of an education provider in the justice sector, delivering engaging sessions across a range of subjects within a prison education setting. You'll provide high-quality cover and deliver core learning to small groups of adult learners with a wide range of educational backgrounds, learning needs and abilities.

Your responsibilities will include

• Planning and delivering engaging, inclusive lessons across a range of subjects, tailoring content to small groups of learners with varied abilities and backgrounds.
• Embedding literacy, numeracy, digital skills and employability naturally into everyday learning to support progression.
• Assessing learners' starting points, constructing Individual Learning Plans and tracking progress accurately.
• Acting as a positive role model, identifying barriers to learning and working with support teams to promote learner wellbeing.
• Maintaining accurate attendance registers and records, and adhering strictly to security protocols within the prison environment.

Requirements

Are you an adaptable, passionate educator looking for a role where no two days are the same?

Many of your learners will have had difficult experiences of education, so patience, empathy and a genuine belief in each individual's potential will matter as much as your subject knowledge. This is a varied, high-impact role for someone who can think on their feet and adapt delivery to whatever the day brings.

Essential

• A strong Level 3 foundation in Maths and English
• Proven experience delivering teaching or training, with strong classroom management and adaptive delivery skills
• Resilience, strong administrative capability and a genuine commitment to engaging learners in a secure environment

Desirable (but not essential)

• A Level 5 teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed or equivalent) — candidates without one, but willing to work towards it, are fully encouraged to apply
• Prior experience in prison education, FE or adult learning settings
• Familiarity with diagnostic tools such as BKSB

What we offer

Salary: From £30,000 per annum

How to apply

If you're ready to bring your versatility and commitment to a role where your teaching genuinely changes lives, we'd love to hear from you.
