Finance Manager
Your tasks
Currently outsourced to external accountants, finance is being brought in house. Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll lead that transition, establish effective processes and controls, and provide the financial insight needed to support business decisions.
It’s a broad, standalone role with plenty of autonomy, suited to someone who enjoys getting into the detail while working closely with an entrepreneurial business owner, with the scope to build a team around you.
Your initial focus will be managing the handover from the external accountants, understanding each business and establishing accurate records, clear reporting and a reliable month-end process.
From there, you’ll take responsibility for
- Preparing monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis.
- Managing day-to-day accounting, including ledgers, invoicing, payments and credit control.
- Overseeing cash flow, budgets, forecasts and working capital.
- Managing intercompany transactions and reporting across multiple entities.
- Preparing year-end accounts, Corporation Tax and VAT returns, alongside relevant Self Assessment submissions.
- Managing payroll, pensions and associated submissions.
- Maintaining statutory records and overseeing Companies House filings.
- Improving accounting systems, financial controls and reporting processes.
- Helping the CEO understand business performance, costs, margins and opportunities to improve profitability.
Requirements
You’ll be an experienced accountant who is confident managing a broad finance remit independently. Comfortable moving between transactional detail and commercial conversations, you’ll enjoy taking ownership and putting structure around a developing finance function.
You’ll bring
- Strong experience across the full accounting cycle, including management accounts, year-end, VAT and payroll.
- The ability to prepare statutory accounts and Corporation Tax returns independently.
- AAT Level 4 as a minimum, with ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualifications or studies welcomed.
- Strong Excel skills and confidence using accounting and payroll systems.
- Clear communication skills and the confidence to work directly with the CEO.
- Ideally, experience managing accounts across multiple businesses or legal entities.
Previous experience bringing an outsourced finance function in house would be beneficial.
