About the company

Why Doktor.se Doktor.se is one of Sweden's largest digi-physical healthcare providers. We combine physical clinics with a digital platform that handles millions of consultations per year in Sweden, Germany, and Norway. Our development team of 25 people is driven by a culture similar to a start-up, but within a profitable & international organization with over 1,000 employees and nearly 2 billion SEK in turnover. We run models from OpenAI and Anthropic in production, both in patient and clinic flows — and usage is growing rapidly. We use AI daily and we expect you to do the same, and we hire people who see it as a lever, not a threat. What you will do Our data platform works, but it was built for yesterday's problems. We have data scattered across Postgres databases, Amplitude, files in S3, and a tangle of Python jobs moving everything around. Reports are being made and the business is steered by them. But trust is sometimes fragile, reconciliations are too manual, and the foundation needs to be rebuilt before we can scale to where we want to go. We need someone who can help us rebuild this — not manage what we have, but reshape it. If you want an environment where the warehouse is tidy and pipelines just roll, this is the wrong place. If you want to redesign a data platform from the ground up, with real ownership and the opportunity to do it right, this is what you own:

Your tasks

Reshape the data foundation — multi-tenancy, storage and retention, and data contracts against backend services.

Decide what our warehouse actually should be: self-hosted Postgres + dbt, managed Snowflake or BigQuery, or something else. You are the one who shapes the choice.

Unify three data sources that currently do not talk to each other: our operational databases, product analytics in Amplitude, and a long tail of S3-based partner integrations.

Build observability into the platform — lineage, freshness, and alerts that actually mean something.

Own the reporting that finance, operations, and the board rely on. Make reports reliable by design, not through manual reconciliation.

Work directly with backend, product, and finance. You are not a support function — you are a colleague who influences how data is produced upstream, not just how it is consumed downstream.

Use AI offensively for pipeline-boilerplate, schema generation, transformation logic, and exploratory analysis — with the same discipline that we ourselves adhere to.

Requirements

You will become part of a small data engineering team of two people. This means a lot of ownership and little to hide behind. The right person sees it as an opportunity. What we are looking for Personality and mindset trump everything - you are unafraid to roll up your sleeves and sometimes throw yourself into the unknown. If you have the right personality and mindset, your seniority matters less.

You have designed and operated data platforms in production — not just written DAGs. You have thought through build vs buy, where transformations belong, and how to keep schemas honest as products evolve.

You are fluent in Python and SQL and have clear opinions on how Postgres should be used as a warehouse (and when it shouldn't).

You have used dbt or equivalent in production and understand data modeling — staging, marts, tests.

You have working knowledge of one or more managed warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and can evaluate them honestly against self-hosted alternatives.

You are comfortable with orchestration tools — Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, whichever — and know what an orchestrator is for.

You see data contracts as a product problem, not just a pipeline problem, and can drive that line towards backend developers.

You use AI in your daily work and can explain how. If the answer is "I haven't really tested it yet," then this is not the role for you.

Experience with healthcare data is a plus. GDPR familiarity is assumed. Knowledge of the Patient Data Act (patientdatalagen) is a bonus.

You have a relevant university degree or equivalent experience.

Language: You work against the entire organization, so Swedish is a strong merit — but English is our working language within tech.

What we offer

What we offer Real influence. The data platform is being rebuilt and you are at the center of it.

Small team, direct impact. 25 developers — your work is visible, it doesn't disappear into a machine.

Autonomy. No micromanagement, no endless chains of decision-making.

Collective agreement, 30 vacation days, wellness allowance, and a budget for personal development.

How to apply

We handle recruitment internally — no agencies, no consultants, no external recruiters.
