The Recreation Division is seeking enthusiastic and qualified Instructor III - Fitness staff to join the team at Saanich Commonwealth Place. These casual positions are ideal for fitness professionals who enjoy delivering safe, engaging and inclusive classes and supporting participants of varying abilities in achieving positive recreation and wellness experiences.
Under the general direction of a Recreation Programmer or Program Technician, the Instructor III - Fitness is responsible for direct instruction, leadership and program management within assigned fitness programs. Responsibilities include preparing the instructional space and equipment, developing class content, providing safe and organized instruction, welcoming and supporting participants, maintaining attendance records and reports, ensuring equipment is safely stored, and maintaining a clean and safe program environment. Instructors may also participate in scheduled in-service training and support other related program activities as required.
Requirements include completion of Grade 10; a minimum of three months of experience in the area of fitness instruction; and current certification and training appropriate to the area of instruction in accordance with industry standards, such as BCRPA, CanFitPro or equivalent fitness certification. Emergency First Aid and CPR-C may be required. Employment is subject to provision of a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) check no older than six months, with renewal required as per policy.
The successful candidates will work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends. Hours and shifts are subject to change based on operational requirements. Although we thank all applicants for applying, only those under consideration will be contacted.
