Communications Advisor

About the Opportunity

The District of Lake Country has an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time Communications Advisor, based in Lake Country, BC. Reporting to the Communications Lead, the Communications Advisor supports the communications and public engagement work plan by developing and coordinating corporate communications, including the Annual Report, publications, news releases, key messages and other public-facing materials. The position works collaboratively with the Communications Lead, Senior Leadership Team, and departments across the organization to support media relations and deliver timely, accurate, accessible, and consistent information to Council, staff, residents, partners, and the broader community.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Shape and deliver communications planning and execution for key District projects, programs, services, and initiatives;
• Develop engaging, accessible content across multiple channels, including web, media, corporate publications, presentations, and public communications;
• Provide trusted communications advice to leaders and departments, identifying opportunities, mitigating risks, and supporting sensitive issues management;
• Support media relations, public engagement, and community outreach through coordinated messaging, promotional materials, and stakeholder communications;
• Collaborate across the organization to ensure consistent corporate messaging, brand standards, and communications alignment with District priorities and emergency response needs; and
• Other related duties as required.

More About You

To qualify for this role, you must have a diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related discipline and a minimum of three years? work experience, preferably in local government, the public sector, or another complex organization. IAP2 Canada training or equivalent is considered an asset. A valid BC Drivers License is also required.

As our ideal candidate, you have working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and website content management systems. You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to tactfully and professionally respond to internal and external inquiries. General knowledge of local government operations, governance, and election processes would be considered an asset. Above all, we value a collaborative attitude with the ability to build positive and productive working relationships with employees and the public.
