Office of the Auditor Master Internship (Unpaid)
The District of Columbia Courts offers internships for students interested in seeking valuable experience in court administration. Interns have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the Court's mission to protect rights and liberties, uphold and interpret the law, and resolve disputes fairly and effectively in the District of Columbia. This internship is for Fall/Winter 2026.
Major duties
This position is an unpaid internship working with the Office of the Auditor Master. This division has opportunities in two areas: Legal and Accounting. Legal Intern The legal intern will assist the Auditor Master in processing cases in the area of probate, civil, tax & family law. The interns major duties are: Assist the team by attending and participating in status and evidentiary hearings. Assist the team with researching legal problems and preparing memoranda for the auditor master. Assist in resolving legal issues affecting the audit and stating of accounts. Assist in the preparation of reports, which includes findings of fact and conclusions of law. Position is flexible to focus the duties to meet the interests and goals of the intern. Accounting Intern The accounting intern will assist the Audit Master with the following: Preparing accounts Reviewing financial statements Determining values of assets and liabilities Identifying missing documentation Reviewing federal and local tax filings
Qualifications
A U.S. Citizen or authorized by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service to intern the U.S. and at least 18 years old. Must be able to commit to a minimum of 15 hours per week. Actively involved in an undergraduate, graduate or professional program. Targeting Major(s): Undergraduate - Political Science/Pre-Law, Social Work, Finance & Accounting Graduate - Political Science, Social Work, Finance & Accounting Majors. All levels of law students (1L, 2L, and 3L) The incumbent should be an enthusiastic and engaged professional who enjoys working with a diverse group of Court personnel and customers and lives the DC Courts' values of Accountability, Excellence, Fairness, Integrity, Fairness, Integrity, Respect and Transparency.
Education

Requirements
Background and security investigations are required. Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record, revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts, is required.
