About the company

This business has been recognised nationally as one of the best places to work, and it’s spent the last three years building a finance function to match.

It’s a purpose-led, multi-site organisation working across England and Wales, investor-backed, and it has roughly doubled in size in recent years with plenty more growth planned. Finance has brought several separate teams together into one and moved onto a new system. Now the focus is on what finance can do for the business, not on rebuilding itself.

Why you’d enjoy it People who work here talk about the culture first. It’s a business that looks after its people, develops them, and makes decisions that have a real effect on people’s lives. You’ll see that up close, because time out at sites with managers on the ground is part of the job.

Your tasks

There’s also a proper challenge in it. You’ll sit on the Wales senior leadership team and share accountability for the division’s EBITDA with the Operations Director. The CFO has kept the structure flat on purpose because he wants finance close to performance. Dedicated teams handle month-end, reporting and analytics, so your week goes on what the numbers mean and what happens next.

You’ll find where revenue can improve and keep staffing costs within budget by understanding what’s driving them. You’ll challenge spend across the divisional cost base and help shape decisions on investment and new sites. You’ll feed into budgets and forecasts with enough stretch to drive growth, and help operational managers own how their sites perform. Your sites run from Swansea to Cardiff.

Requirements

“I’m not expecting anyone to know our sector. I want someone with the gravitas to challenge the business, and the warmth to bring people with them.” – Chief Financial Officer

You You’ll be a qualified commercially focused business partner who’s curious about what’s behind the numbers. You’ll be approachable and build real relationships with frontline teams and senior leaders alike. You’ll also need the confidence to push back on cost in a way that brings people round to a better option. You don’t need sector experience, and people from multi-site, operationally focused businesses will feel at home.
