Steersman

Job Description

We are seeking a dependable and safety-conscious Steersman to operate a small wooden passenger boat within Singapore waters.

The Steersman will be responsible for the safe navigation and operation of the vessel, while ensuring the safety and well-being of all passengers throughout each journey.

Responsibilities

• Operate and navigate the passenger boat in a safe and responsible manner.
• Ensure passengers remain safe throughout every trip.
• Carry out routine checks of the vessel and essential equipment before departure.
• Handle departure, arrival, berthing and mooring procedures safely and efficiently.
• Maintain a proper lookout and follow all applicable navigation, operational and safety requirements.
• Assess weather and sea conditions and apply sound judgement before and during boat operations.
• Keep the vessel clean, well-maintained and in suitable operating condition.
• Promptly report any defects, incidents, equipment issues or safety concerns to the Company.
• Follow Company policies, operating procedures and applicable Singapore maritime regulations.
• Carry out any other duties necessary to support the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.

Requirements

• Hold a valid Singapore Steersman licence and/or relevant MPA certification.
• Previous experience operating small passenger boats or similar vessels will be an advantage.
• Have a good understanding of Singapore waters and basic vessel-handling techniques.
• Be capable of working independently, as the vessel operates under a single-person manning arrangement.
• Demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility, reliability and commitment to safety.
• Be physically fit and capable of carrying out all duties associated with passenger boat operations.
