Dry Bulk Analyst (Shipbroker)

Role Overview We are seeking a Dry Bulk Analyst to provide research, data analysis and market intelligence across the global dry-bulk shipping market. The successful candidate will monitor commodity trade flows, vessel supply, freight rates and broader economic developments to identify trends affecting shipping demand and market performance. The role will work closely with shipbrokers, clients and research colleagues to produce timely analysis, forecasts and commercial insights. Key Responsibilities Monitor and analyse global dry-bulk freight markets across major vessel segments.

Track the movement of key commodities, including iron ore, coal, grain, bauxite and fertilisers.

Analyse vessel supply, fleet growth, orderbooks, deliveries, scrapping and fleet productivity.

Monitor freight rates, time-charter earnings, vessel availability and FFA market developments.

Maintain and improve databases covering vessel movements, cargo flows and fleet fundamentals.

Analyse port congestion, weather disruptions, geopolitical events and regulatory developments affecting dry-bulk trade.

Develop short- and medium-term forecasts for commodity volumes, vessel demand and freight markets.

Prepare regular market reports, presentations and research publications.

Provide timely market commentary and analytical support to dry-cargo brokers.

Respond to client enquiries and prepare customised market analysis where required.

Work with internal data and digital teams to improve analytical tools, models and reporting processes.

Present research findings to colleagues, clients and other industry stakeholders.

Identify emerging trends, risks and commercial opportunities within the dry-bulk market.

Verify the accuracy, consistency and reliability of data used in research outputs.

Support wider research and consultancy projects when required.

Requirements Degree in Economics, Finance, Maritime Studies, Data Analytics, Statistics or a related discipline.

2 to 5 years of experience in shipping research, dry-bulk analysis, shipbroking, commodities or a related analytical role.

Good understanding of dry-bulk shipping markets and major seaborne commodities.

Strong quantitative, analytical and research capabilities.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data visualisation tools.

Experience with Python, SQL, Power BI or similar analytical tools would be advantageous.

Familiarity with shipping databases, vessel-tracking platforms and freight-market information would be beneficial.

Able to interpret complex data and communicate clear commercial conclusions.

Strong report-writing, presentation and communication skills.

Detail-oriented with a commitment to data accuracy.

Able to manage multiple assignments and work effectively in a fast-moving market environment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
