About us

We are shaping a digital state – together with the administration. As partners on equal footing, we strengthen the administration on its path to driving its own digitalization forward. With our own iterative product development and our commitment to better framework conditions, we create the foundation for digital solutions that are scalable and effective.

Your tasks

Our Platform Team develops and operates internal tools, services, and infrastructure that enable our project teams to create and operate scalable and reliable cloud-native applications. As a Platform Engineer, you will use your expertise to help take our platform to the next level. You will play a decisive role in the conception and further development of our platform services – with a clear focus on reliability and security. In doing so, you will drive technical enablement, operational excellence, and the implementation of developer-centric tools that enable fast and high-quality software development. You can find more information about our Platform Team in our blog post "Security, Standardization, Support: our Platform Team" (https://digitalservice.bund.de/blog/sicherheit-standardisierung-support-unser-plattform-team).

Details about the position

  • Participation in platform strategy and implementation: Work closely with Senior Software Engineers and leadership to implement technical roadmaps. Actively participate in team discussions, identify potential for system improvements, and support the elimination of existing Technical Depts.
  • Building and maintaining the platform infrastructure: Develop and maintain internal tools and platform services that optimize the workflows of software developers. Manage and update our Infrastructure-as-Code setups (Terraform, ArgoCD, Kustomize, Helm) and ensure the daily reliability, monitoring, and scaling of our Kubernetes clusters.
  • Support, documentation, and enablement: Create and maintain clear and up-to-date technical documentation and runbooks. Provide hands-on support to our product development teams, helping them onboard to platform tools, troubleshoot deployment pipelines, and successfully use self-service functions.

What you bring with you

  • Platform experience: You bring sound hands-on experience in the field of Platform Engineering, DevOps, or SRE. You have very good knowledge of cloud infrastructure, container orchestration (Kubernetes), Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform), GitOps (ArgoCD, Helm, Kustomize), CI/CD systems, and observability stacks.
  • Programming and system knowledge: You feel confident using at least one relevant programming language (e.g., Go, Python, Java). Additionally, you have a good understanding of Linux system administration and network principles.
  • Product mindset: You view internal platforms from a customer-oriented perspective, focusing on understanding the needs of developers and providing valuable, user-friendly solutions. You succeed in communicating technical concepts clearly and understandably to different target groups and collaborating effectively across teams.
  • Motivation for public administration: You are enthusiastic about the idea of digitalizing public administration and want to apply your knowledge to the requirements of the administration. You speak fluent English (C1) and ideally bring German language skills (B1), as we speak both languages in our daily work.
