Head of Marketing
Digital Tonic are working with Rutland to find their first Head of Marketing. Rutland is a growing specialist in door closers and fire and security door hardware. Their products play an important role in building safety, but what sets them apart is the expertise behind them: they help customers with testing, certification, specification and training, as well as the hardware itself. They’re on track for strong financial performance this year and have an ambition to more than double their revenues within four years. Marketing will have a meaningful part to play in getting them there, and this is your opportunity to build the department. The Role There’s no inherited team or fixed playbook. You’ll work closely with Rutland’s Sales & Marketing Director to decide what great marketing looks like for the business, shape the strategy and budget, and put your ideas into action. You’ll have the backing to use external specialists where they add value and, as the function grows, hire and lead a team of your own. This is a highly varied role. You'll build multichannel lead generation campaigns, targeting and engaging with new prospects and nurturing them through the sales cycle. You'll manage the Wordpress website, develop the content calendar, grow the social media reach and engagement, and both manage and utilise the CRM. You’ll be very hands-on at the start. Rutland knows much of its market, but wants to do more to generate demand, develop customer relationships and support sales through a buying journey that can be a can be lengthy sales cycle last around 18 months. HubSpot is already in place; you’ll make better use of it by building targeted campaigns, nurture opportunities and showing what marketing is contributing by optimising campaigns and tracking ROI. There’s also a strong story to tell. Rutland help customers navigate complex questions around fire testing, certification and specification every day. You’ll turn that knowledge into content that new and existing customers want to engage with, from case studies and video to webinars and practical guidance. You’ll lead their exhibition activity, support distributors and partners, and help bring new parts of the business into a joined-up marketing approach. Skills & Experience Broad B2B marketing experience, ideally in a technical, manufacturing, construction or similar market Strong experience development marketing plans and strategies Experience with building demand generation, lead nurturing and measurement Solid CRM experience, ideally HubSpot or a similarly capable CRM A knack for turning technical expertise into clear, compelling content for customers Proven track record of working with supporting sales teams Exceptional communications skills Benefits There's a competitive starting salary on offer of £55,000–£65,000 depending on experience, plus a quarterly company-performance bonus. You’ll typically spend 3 days a week at Rutland’s Chesterfield office and 2 working remotely. The real attraction is the scope of the role.
