At the earliest possible date, we are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer (m/w/d) in Weimar.
What to expect:
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you are the technical interface between European OEM customers and our Chinese headquarters. You ensure alignment regarding technical direction, design quality, schedules, and cost targets, and drive projects from concept to series production readiness.
You combine practical expertise in mechanical engineering with strong communication skills and intercultural competence to represent the company confidently to customers and lead internal teams toward successful implementation.
Customer Interface
- Contact person for European OEM development teams
- Building and maintaining trusting, long-term customer relationships
- Capturing, clarifying, and translating customer requirements into structured inputs for the HQ development teams
- Leading or supporting customer design meetings, technical reviews, RFIs/RFQs, and requirement alignment sessions
- Proactive identification of customer issues, risks, and future requirements
Bridging Function to the Chinese Headquarters
- Ensuring smooth intercontinental communication between EU customers and HQ teams
- Alignment of engineering decisions, priorities, and schedules
- Consolidation of technical viewpoints to avoid misunderstandings and ensure a fast, high-quality response to customer inquiries
- Communication of EU-specific design constraints, standards, and OEM expectations to the HQ teams
Mechanical Architecture and Design Responsibility
- Responsibility for the mechanical architecture of current and future platforms
- Leading parametric modeling, GD&T application, tolerance stack-up analysis, and design reviews
- Driving decisions regarding material selection, structural arrangement, and DFM/DFA
- Collaboration with CAE teams
- Management of prototyping, mechanical integration, verification, and validation
- Analysis of test results and implementation of design improvements
Interaction with Teams and Suppliers
- Mentoring and technical guidance of a small team of mechanical engineers
- Monitoring supplier relationships for mechanical components, tooling, and manufacturing feasibility
- Participation in internal and external design reviews
Processes, Innovation, and Market Awareness
- Monitoring industry trends, benchmarks, and innovative technologies
- Driving continuous improvement of processes, tools, modeling standards, and development workflows
What you bring to the role:
- Degree in mechanical engineering or a comparable technical field
- Several years of experience in mechanical engineering, ideally in the automotive industry or with Tier-1 suppliers
- Proven success in implementing mechanical systems from concept to series production readiness
- Very good knowledge of CATIA V5, CREO, or NX
- Sound knowledge of GD&T and tolerance analysis
- Sound knowledge in the areas of die casting, sheet metal processing, plastics, and joining processes
- Experience in mentoring or leading engineers and working in cross-functional teams
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Intercultural competence
- Fluent English; German and/or Chinese are an advantage
