Role: Litigation Paralegal

Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire Contract: Full time, permanent, hybrid Salary: £26,000 - £28,000

As a Litigation Paralegal within this established in-house legal team, you will support the management of legal recovery claims relating to commercial property and infrastructure damage. Working in a structured, high-volume environment, you will be responsible for managing your own caseload and progressing matters efficiently from initial instruction through to resolution.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing and assessing new damage claims received from external stakeholders, contractors and third parties, ensuring all relevant information and supporting evidence is accurate and complete.
  • Managing a personal caseload of legal recovery matters from initial instruction through to final resolution, using internal case management systems to monitor progress, maintain accurate records and meet agreed service levels.
  • Assessing claims at an early stage to establish potential liability, legal merit and recovery value, and determining whether matters meet the relevant criteria for further action or litigation.
  • Liaising with third parties, insurers and legal representatives to negotiate settlements and resolve claims wherever possible, while protecting the organisation's commercial interests.
  • Supporting matters that progress to formal proceedings, including preparing case files and assisting with the drafting of pleadings, witness statements and other legal documentation.
  • Gathering and assessing evidence, including reviewing technical documentation, planning maps and diagrams, and liaising with internal operational teams to establish the relevant facts of each case.
  • Maintaining effective communication with internal departments and external stakeholders, including engineers, surveyors, contractors and claims specialists, to ensure matters progress efficiently and information is shared appropriately.
  • Ensuring all casework is conducted in accordance with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements and internal policies, escalating potential legal risks or issues where appropriate.
  • Using specialist case management systems to maintain accurate records, manage documentation, record case activity and produce reports.
  • Contributing to the continued improvement of case management processes, data accuracy and overall efficiency within the legal team.

Candidate Profile

To be considered for this role, applicants should have:

  • Previous experience working within a legal environment.
  • Experience or exposure to civil or commercial litigation.
  • Experience managing a caseload and progressing matters through to resolution.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a high volume of cases accurately and efficiently.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to assess and analyse information effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • A proactive and methodical approach to managing workload and meeting deadlines.
