Role: Family Law Locum
Location: Bakewell, Peak District Pay: £45-£55 per hour, depending on experience Contract: Short-Term Locum Assignment Dates: Friday 9 October to Friday 16 October 2026, inclusive
The Opportunity
CRA Consulting is recruiting an experienced Family Law Locum for a firm of solicitors based in Bakewell, in the heart of the Peak District. This is a short-term assignment offering a competitive hourly rate and a clearly defined period of cover. It would suit an experienced family lawyer with availability between assignments who can take responsibility for existing matters and maintain continuity of client service.
The Role
You will provide day-to-day support across the firm's family law caseload, ensuring matters continue to progress during the assignment. Responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing existing files and identifying immediate priorities
- Providing clear, practical advice and updates to clients
- Preparing correspondence and relevant legal documentation
- Monitoring deadlines and progressing outstanding actions
- Liaising with other solicitors, counsel and third parties as required
- Maintaining accurate records and providing a clear handover at the end of the assignment

About You
The firm is looking for an experienced Family Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive who can work independently and settle quickly into a short-term assignment. You should have:
- Strong family law experience and sound technical knowledge
- Confidence managing an existing caseload with minimal supervision
- Excellent client-care and communication skills
- A practical, organised approach to prioritising urgent work
- Availability from Friday 9 October to Friday 16 October
