The Role

As a Registered General Nurse, you will take ownership of day-to-day clinical governance, ensuring every resident receives attentive, evidence-based care tailored to their individual needs.

  • Assessing, planning, implementing, and regularly reviewing comprehensive, person-centred clinical care plans for all residents.
  • Safely managing, administering, and auditing prescribed medications in strict adherence to NMC guidelines and home policies.
  • Delivering skilled nursing interventions, including complex wound management, catheter care, diabetes monitoring, and palliative support.
  • Leading, guiding, and supporting care assistants across your shift, delegating duties effectively and maintaining high standards.
  • Liaising closely with local GPs, community health teams, social workers, and multidisciplinary specialists to coordinate holistic care.
  • Communicating openly and compassionately with residents, families, and advocates, providing clear updates and emotional reassurance.
  • Maintaining accurate, contemporaneous electronic and paper clinical records in line with statutory and regulatory standards.
  • Recognising changes in clinical presentation promptly and initiating appropriate medical escalations or emergency interventions.
  • Participating actively in routine clinical audits, infection control monitoring, and internal quality improvement programmes.

About You

  • Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a Registered General Nurse (essential).
  • Strong clinical skills and sound professional judgement, with an up-to-date knowledge of clinical guidelines (essential).
  • Proven confidence in leading a shift, delegating tasks effectively, and mentoring junior colleagues (essential).
  • Compassionate, resident-centred approach with a genuine commitment to elderly care and advocacy (essential).
  • Clear, empathetic communication skills, capable of building trusting relationships with families and professionals (essential).

A Typical Day

Your shift begins with a detailed handover from colleagues, allowing you to review changes in resident wellbeing and plan the day's clinical priorities. You will direct your care team, administer morning medications, attend to complex dressings, and review clinical charts ahead of routine GP visits. In the afternoon, you might review a resident's nutritional plan, discuss palliative care preferences with a family member, or provide guidance to a care assistant on infection control.
