Based at our modern production facility in Shropshire, we are an established and forward-thinking manufacturing organisation dedicated to delivering precision products to a varied industrial client base. Our ongoing investment in machinery, technology, and staff development has cemented our reputation for engineering excellence and reliable delivery. As we continue to expand our operations to satisfy growing commercial demand, we are seeking a dedicated Production Supervisor to oversee our daily workshop activities.

This role is vital to our manufacturing success. As the key link between senior management and the shop floor, you will champion operational discipline, nurture team talent, and drive production volume without compromising on craftsmanship or safety. Your leadership will set the tone for daily output, directly shaping our workplace culture and ensuring our products leave the facility on time and within specification.

Working in Shropshire offers an exceptional work-life balance, combining the benefits of a historic Shropshire market town with excellent regional transport links and stunning surrounding countryside.

Location: Shropshire

Salary: £33,000 – £36,500 per year

Employment: Permanent

The Role

As Production Supervisor, you will lead day-to-day manufacturing activities, managing your team to achieve demanding schedules while upholding high standards of quality and safety.

  • Leading, motivating, and directing shop-floor operatives to achieve daily output targets safely and efficiently.
  • Monitoring production lines closely to identify bottlenecks, minimise machine downtime, and resolve operational issues promptly.
  • Enforcing strict health and safety protocols across all work areas, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring correct PPE usage.
  • Collaborating with maintenance and quality assurance personnel to sustain high right-first-time rates and reduce material scrap.
  • Planning daily staffing allocations, managing break rotations, and arranging cover for holidays and unplanned absences.
  • Conducting regular shift briefings, communicating key performance indicators, and sharing thorough handover notes with incoming supervisors.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives across the shop floor using established lean manufacturing techniques such as 5S.
  • Identifying skills gaps within the team, coordinating on-the-job training, and mentoring operatives to aid their technical development.
  • Accurately recording production metrics, labour hours, and material usage, supplying clear summaries to the operations management team.

About You

  • Essential: Proven supervisory or team-leading experience gained within a fast-paced UK manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Essential: Strong working knowledge of workshop health and safety standards, with a proactive approach to hazard identification.
  • Essential: Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and inspire production teams through clear, constructive communication.
  • Essential: Practical experience of applying continuous improvement tools and lean methodologies to eliminate waste and streamline processes.
  • Essential: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure during production interruptions.
  • Essential: Competent IT and administrative skills, capable of logging production data and managing shift handovers accurately.
  • Desirable: Experience working within fabrication, precision assembly, or component manufacturing environments.
  • Desirable: A recognised supervisory or leadership qualification.

A Typical Day

Your shift begins with a comprehensive handover from the outgoing supervisor, reviewing line efficiency, material stocks, and output from the previous shift before you lead a focused briefing with your team. Throughout the day, you will be an active presence on the shop floor, monitoring progress against schedule, addressing mechanical holdups with maintenance technicians, and supporting operators with practical advice. Towards the end of the shift, you will complete data entries, audit work areas against 5S standards, and prepare an organised handover to ensure the next team can hit the ground running.

What You Can Expect

  • A permanent role with a stable, growing manufacturing business based in Shropshire.
  • 28 days annual leave including bank holidays.
  • A structured induction process and ongoing training to help you succeed in the post.
  • Clear routes to progress into production manager and operations management roles.
  • A friendly, collaborative workshop environment with supportive colleagues and management.
