Consula is the recruitment partner on behalf of a growing organisation.

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Maintenance Operative to keep our buildings, facilities and equipment in safe, reliable working order across our Shropshire sites. You will be the person people call when something needs fixing, checking or improving — and you will take pride in getting it right first time.

This is a varied role for someone who enjoys practical work and likes their days to be different. One day you might be completing planned checks and minor repairs; the next you could be supporting a small project, liaising with contractors or helping prepare a building for an event.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across buildings, grounds and equipment
  • Complete routine safety checks and record them accurately
  • Carry out minor repairs to decoration, fixtures, fittings and fabric, escalating larger works to contractors
  • Supervise and check the quality of work carried out by external contractors on site
  • Maintain tools, plant and equipment, keeping storage areas tidy and organised
  • Support health and safety across site, including fire checks, hazard reporting and safe working practices
  • Help with moves, setups and event preparation when needed
  • Keep clear records of work completed, parts used and outstanding jobs
  • Work with the wider team to plan maintenance around the needs of the business

What Success Looks Like

  • Buildings, equipment and grounds stay safe, presentable and in good working order
  • Problems are spotted early and fixed before they become bigger, more expensive issues
  • Contractors deliver to standard, and our sites remain professional and welcoming
  • Colleagues trust you to handle their requests quickly, safely and courteously

Person Specification

Experience

  • Hands-on maintenance experience, ideally across buildings or facilities
  • Confident using common tools and carrying out basic repairs
  • Experience working safely around others, including members of the public

Skills and Knowledge

  • Good practical problem-solving and a can-do approach
  • Basic understanding of building systems (electrics, plumbing, heating) with the confidence to know what to fix and what to escalate
  • Good record-keeping and clear communication
  • A general safety awareness, with a willingness to complete further training

Personal Qualities

  • Reliable, self-motivated and happy working on your own initiative
  • Friendly and helpful with colleagues and visitors
  • Organised, with pride in the standard of your work

What's On Offer

  • Salary of £32,500–£35,500 per year
  • Permanent, full-time position
  • Workplace pension and generous annual leave
  • Full training on our buildings, systems and procedures
  • A supportive team that values practical skill and reliability
