ABS Cobol Developer

This is your mission

Within the Banking Services environment, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of the ABS legacy platform, which supports securities settlement, conservation and corporate-action processing for the UK market.

Working closely with business analysts, you will translate business requirements into robust COBOL solutions while ensuring the reliability, security and performance of the existing platform.

You will also contribute to the modernization of the platform by using AI-assisted development tools, modern testing practices, CI/CD pipelines and monitoring solutions.

Build side

• Translate business needs into clear technical specifications
• Develop and maintain legacy COBOL code on the ABS platform
• Use AI-assisted tools to analyse, understand and safely refactor existing code
• Identify impacted components by mapping functional specifications to the codebase
• Contribute to the design and implementation of unit and integration tests
• Support the adoption of AI-driven data validation and modern development practices
• Contribute to CI/CD implementation and the introduction of modern monitoring solutions

Run side

• Maintain and evolve existing COBOL components while preserving business logic
• Analyse and safely modify impacted components
• Support acceptance-test planning and execution
• Monitor system performance and contribute to improving security and reliability
• Document changes and maintain technical documentation
• Manage version control and ensure compliance with security and regulatory standards
• Contribute to continuous improvement of the legacy platform

This is your background

• 4+ years of relevant professional experience
• Strong expertise in Micro Focus COBOL
• Experience working with legacy applications and codebases
• Experience working in an Agile environment is desirable
• Previous experience in the financial sector is desirable

• PowerHouse (4GL) – desirable
• Eloquence (Marxmeier) – desirable
• DevOps tools such as Ansible and ToolChain – desirable
• Git version control – desirable
• AI-assisted code analysis and refactoring tools

• CI/CD pipelines
• Monitoring and data validation solutions
• Security and regulatory compliance
