Why do we need you? Do you love challenges? Come take on R&D challenges at Sekurit R&D Center France!

Saint-Gobain is a world leader in glazing and, in particular, a pioneer in the development of functional and innovative glazing for the automotive sector. These glazings are coated, among other things, with functional and aesthetic inorganic layers: enamels, ceramic inks, thin films. Recent evolution in glazing and its functionalities leads Saint-Gobain to develop new innovative coating solutions. To support this evolution, we are looking for an R&D Engineer specialized in materials chemistry, with strong expertise in inorganic chemistry and particularly in sol-gel. Your mission will be to design new formulations and layer architectures to obtain specific optical and mechanical functions through dense, porous, structured, or even textured layers, depending on the deposition processes implemented. Good knowledge of organic chemistry will allow you to optimize sol-gel formulations to confer multiple functionalities to the glazings. You will intervene in the entire development process, from understanding physico-chemical mechanisms to the validation of solutions at pilot and industrial scales.

Within the team, your main missions will be the following:

  • Lead R&D projects as a whole, from the definition of scientific and technical objectives to the validation of solutions, ensuring the management of planning, budget, risks, deliverables, and reporting to the various stakeholders.
  • Develop and optimize sol-gel, inorganic, or organic-inorganic hybrid formulations to provide new functions for automotive glazings.
  • Coordinate internal and external collaborations with other Group research centers, industrial teams, raw material suppliers, equipment manufacturers, university laboratories, and specialized partners.
  • Acquire and strengthen key technical skills for Saint-Gobain, based on tests, characterizations, and trials on pilot installations.
  • Be a recognized player in innovation: ensure scientific, technological, and competitive intelligence and identify new innovation opportunities.

Travel is to be expected in France and abroad (approximately 20% of working time).

Is this position right for you?

  • Engineer graduated from a top engineering school or university in chemistry, physico-chemistry, or materials science; training ideally completed by a PhD.
  • A specialization or significant experience in inorganic chemistry, sol-gel chemistry, hybrid materials and/or functional coatings is strongly desired.
  • You have at least 3 years of experience in R&D, including materials development and technical project management (planning, budget monitoring, validation of technical specifications, transverse and multidisciplinary coordination).
  • You stand out by your marked interest in research and innovation.
  • Language: Fluent English is essential (written and oral). Mastery of a second language would be appreciated.
  • You enjoy interacting with others and work easily in a network.
  • A good communicator, you know how to unite a project team.
  • Autonomy and management of several projects in parallel are among your strengths.
