SENIOR EMBEDDED SOFTWARE ENGINEER
Do you want to be part of building the embedded software behind a technology that can change how heavy electric vehicles are charged? Elonroad develops automatic conductive charging that makes it possible to charge heavy electric vehicles both when they are stationary and during driving, especially for ports, terminals, and logistics facilities where operations must not stop. The technology has gone from prototype to having installations, pilot projects, and collaborations in, among others, Sweden, France, Singapore, and the USA. Following a new investment round, Elonroad is now entering its next growth phase with a focus on industrialization, scalability, and continued technical development. As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you will play a central role in further developing the embedded software that is a crucial part of Elonroad's products. You will have significant technical influence and work closely with both hardware and product as the solution is scaled for an international market. The product sits at the intersection of embedded software, electronics, power electronics, communication, cloud services, and physical infrastructure. You will become part of a cross-disciplinary and non-pretentious team with short decision paths, where good ideas can quickly be translated into real solutions. For the right person, this is an opportunity to join a company at an exciting stage and take an important role in the development of technology that can change how heavy electric vehicles are charged and used globally. AI as part of how we work We see AI as a natural tool in modern product development and use it to increase efficiency in, among other things, development, testing, documentation, and problem-solving. We are looking for you who are curious about new ways of working, use AI pragmatically, and would like to contribute to how the technology can make both you and the team better. Main tasks and responsibilities You will have a central role in the development of our embedded platform and great freedom under responsibility. Develop robust embedded software in C for ARM Cortex-M and STM32, with RTOS such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr. Develop and further develop software architecture, interfaces, and communication via, among others, CAN/CAN-FD and Ethernet. Work with OTA, diagnostics, cybersecurity, and connected systems. Troubleshoot complex problems in the interaction between software, electronics, and hardware. Work closely with mechanics, electronics, cloud, and system engineering. Make pragmatic technical trade-offs and understand when a solution is good enough to move forward. Contribute experience, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance to the team.
The position is located in Lund. Some flexibility exists for hybrid work, but most of the work takes place together at the office. You report to Head of Engineering. For the right person, there is an opportunity to develop towards a team lead role in the long term. Qualifications and personality We are looking for an experienced engineer who enjoys creating, solving problems, and seeing concrete results from their work. You are practical and pragmatic, have a clear drive forward, and can simultaneously lift your gaze and see the system as a whole. We believe you have: Approximately 5–10 years of relevant experience in embedded software. University education, preferably a Master of Science in Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Engineering within a relevant field. Very good knowledge of C and development for real-time systems. Experience with ARM Cortex-M, STM32, and RTOS. A good understanding of integration between hardware and software as well as troubleshooting on physical hardware. Experience with communication protocols and tools such as JTAG/SWD, logic analyzer, and oscilloscope. Experience with version control, automated testing, and CI/CD. Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with different competencies. Unimpeded knowledge of English is a requirement.
Experience with OTA, embedded cybersecurity, power electronics, charging systems, or industrial communication protocols is meritorious. As a person, you are self-driven without being an individualist. You appreciate freedom under responsibility, have good judgment, and know when it is time to continue improving and when something is good enough. You are a good communicator, have a helicopter perspective, and thrive in a non-pretentious team with friendly people who help each other.
