SPACE GEODESY AND SPACE WEATHER STUDY ENGINEER - M/F
About the company
Description Within the Environment Business Unit Earth Observation Program, the "Space Observation" division specializes in Earth observation by satellite. It operates across the entire measurement and data chain, from mission definition and scientific expertise to the development of algorithms, processing chains, and expertise centers. Its clients are primarily space agencies such as CNES, ESA, and EUMETSAT.
Within this division, the "Localization and Orbitography" unit develops and operates activities in space geodesy, precise orbitography, and space weather. It relies notably on GNSS, DORIS, and SLR techniques to produce and analyze geodetic parameters, precise orbits, and products related to the ionospheric environment.
Your tasks
The mission consists of strengthening the team in conducting scientific studies, developing and validating algorithms, as well as maintaining, evolving, and operating operational processing chains in geodesy and space weather. To successfully carry out this mission, you will be required to:
- Participate in the production and analysis of geodetic products: precise orbits and clocks of GNSS satellites, station coordinates, and Earth orientation parameters;
- Contribute to the processing and studies carried out within the framework of the IGS international analysis center in collaboration with CNES;
- Contribute to space weather activities, notably the processing of GNSS data for ionosphere characterization and the production of associated products;
- Develop, consolidate, validate, and automate scientific algorithms and processing chains, ensuring their performance, reliability, and documentation;
- Ensure corrective and evolutionary maintenance of processing chains and contribute to the continuous improvement of operational services;
- Ensure exchanges and reporting with institutional clients, as well as good cooperation with industrial and/or scientific partners;
- Promote activities during contractual meetings, through presentations at international scientific conferences and, depending on the subjects, through publications;
- Participate in responses to calls for tenders and ensure scientific and technological monitoring in the fields of space geodesy, GNSS, precise orbitography, and space weather;
- Participate in occasional on-call duties during the year for operational space weather projects.
Requirements
Engineer and/or PhD, you have solid training in one or more of the following fields: physics, applied mathematics, GNSS, geodesy, geophysics, remote sensing, signal processing, localization, or precise orbitography. Initial experience in the processing and analysis of scientific data, algorithmic development, or modeling is desired.
You are proficient in the Linux environment and have skills in several scientific programming languages, notably Shell, Python, C, and/or FORTRAN. Knowledge in GNSS observation processing, space geodesy, ionosphere, or geomagnetism will be assets.
A good command of English, both written and spoken, is indispensable. The position involves writing technical documents, participating in meetings and teleconferences, as well as presentations in English.
Your scientific curiosity, rigor, autonomy, analytical and adaptation skills, sense of initiative, and taste for teamwork will be assets for succeeding in this role.
